My own private echo chamber
-
Dear WordPress Support,
Please can you advise on the following issues. Since August 19th 2019 I have made over ten posts, but each time I publish, the option to add tags or a slug line is unavailable (the tag inteface is no longer visible in the right hand panel). Also, the last ten posts have not shown up in the Reader. Of course, if I follow myself, posts auomatically appear – but I see little point in following myself, even though this particular option is enabled by default. I think the writing tools on WordPress are second to none, but I’m not sure if my invisibility is by design or error (whether it be on my part or yours).
Yours sincerely,
Nicholas Shea.

Have you tried clicking the (cog) settings button top right when you’re editing a post? Then you could add tags.

Thank you “themagicrobot” for your reply. Unfortunately the cog button does not work for me; I have tried it several times over the past months and the “tags” option remains absent. Further, an algorithm or unknown entity has appended my original post with the line: “The blog I need help with is…” That line was not in my original post. The site is not a blog per se but rather a collection of sample chapters. Obviously, I don’t expect to appear in the Reader each time I make a new post – there are simply too many blogs out there to list them all. But the fact that I can no longer add tags or a slug-line is rather strange.

I stand admonished. The cog wheel icon is working again now. Thanks to “themagicrobot” for pointing this out.

That’s good to hear.
PS: “The blog I need help with is…” is automatically added because that is the site associated with the account you are posting from. It helps if people reveal the correct site they’re working on. Often people posting here are talking about unnamed sites hosted elsewhere using the WordPress.org software which have a number of differences to their dashboards.
