My own visits are being recorded in stats

My own visits, even when I’m logged in, are being recorded in stats. (No, my blog is not set to “private.”)
I have contacted support, and they’ve tried, but it’s been frustrating. First I was given instructions I could not follow because what I saw on my screen did not correspond to what I was being told. (“Click on Jetpack under settings and then on Traffic at the top of the page.” Jetpack is not under settings. When I do click on it, nothing comes up that says “Traffic” and enables me to set it to not record admin visits.) Then I was assured that, in fact, my own visits were NOT being recorded in stats. To test this, first thing in the morning, I visited my site from logging in, then checked the stats. Yep, suddenly I had a visitor in stats, looking at EXACTLY the same pages I’d visited. I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to believe my own lyin’ eyes.
Has anyone else encountered this? It might be relevant that my account is quite old, but the site I’m updating is new.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are the “visits” from navigating your admin dashboard and editing a post/page or are you viewing a completed page/post?

When you use the View Page button it loads a new browser window and navigates to the URL. I think that should count as site traffic, it is still a visit, even if it is just you.

Hey there folks, yeah, we aren’t supposed to be counting your own logged-in visits to a public site, even if you’re viewing in new tabs/windows. Those visits should only show for logged-out views.
@paft5 could you confirm whether you have the same problem in another browser? This could be a thing with cookies / a browser extension / some browser setting that’s making the system think it’s a logged out visit.
I ran into one case a long time ago, for example, where someone’s browser was generating thumbnails for her, and that (since it wasn’t done with cookies) was counting as a visit.

Thank you, and I apologize for the delayed response. Yes, I seem to be encountering this in both of the browsers I use, Firefox and Google Chrome.

Hmm. The stats aren’t updated in real-time; usually they take a little while to update, especially with visitor data, so it’s odd that you can consistently see a single visit right after you view it.
Do you want to try an experiment? Look at your site’s view numbers, then load it in a different tab (same browser.) You should see up at the top that you’re logged in as yourself. Click around on the site quite a bit to rack up the views so they’re well beyond your typical view per visitor. I’ll also redact the site address from the thread so helpers here aren’t accidentally interfering. When do you see those show up?
