My Page crapped out, probably due to length
-
A warm hello to all other WP users and the assistants here.
I don’t think there’s going to be a fix for my problem. That’s the bad news. The good news, I hope, is that I can get around it.
I have a Page on my blog (A Yappy Trade Barrier) called “Books And Authors I’ve Read.” And that’s what it’s about. I’ve read a lot of books and I thought it would be interesting if I listed them all, adding in ‘nuggets’ for each book that I highlighted when I read the book. The vast majority of books that I’ve read are non fiction. The problem arises, and I saw hints, earlier, of this problem coming, is that as my list grew and I kept adding the code that allows me to direct readers to the next page, the Page post kept growing longer. It’s up to 6 sub-pages. (I’m trying to keep each sub-page a reasonable size. No one wants to do or see an endless scroll.) I noticed that WP was choking on the post a while ago. Time lags in text appearing as I typed were the visible evidence of that.
Now, on sub page 6, I can’t use the editor (the classic editor which I have a work around for, thank goodness). I start to type and the whole things disappears – up. Nothing I do can keep that text in place. The minute I hit the space bar to type another word, the sub-page goes blank. I can’t work with that. I’m forced to add another Page.
I don’t want to fill up my Page bar with Pages, for one thing. What’s the use of having a ‘next page’ feature if it can’t handle the load? Perhaps it’s unrealistic of me to think that it should be able to take content indefinitely. But how many Pages will I end up with?
