Hi @dragstor -the vast majority of folks posting about this are owners of free WordPress.com websites. Free sites don’t have access to the dashboard mentioned in the other message and thus they don’t have any control over the ads displayed on their free websites. This is an issue that WordPress.com needs to address with the new ad provider.

@dragstor I was about to type exactly the same point justjennifer wrote! It’s not just an issue with paid accounts getting ads when they shouldn’t, but free accounts linking to phishing scams.

I also have a free wordpress.com site and have no control over what ads are shown on my site.

Any news on this problem, is it fixed yet?

    Thanks :-)

Just want to add that this issue has been reported by my readers as well. I toggled off/on ads, so we’ll see if that helps. Hoping there’s a fix in the works.

  • Hi there, I wanted to update this thread! As mentioned in a similar thread, our new ads partner has implemented a fix that should take care of these scam-type ads. Please report back if you are still seeing them.

Firstly thank you for the fix as the issue does seem to be over.

But a comment on my blog has suggested a change.

“I cannot now log in to replies on your blog on the Apple devices I normally use to read your blog and I have had to resort to my iPhone to write this.”

Does anyone know why this might be please?

    Thanks for the follow-up @notayesmanseconomics!

Since the issue seems to be resolved on your end, that’s great to hear.

Regarding the comment from your visitor — I’d like to better understand what they’re experiencing so we can look into it. If possible, could you ask them:

    • What Apple devices and browsers they were using when the login to comment didn’t work (e.g. Mac with Safari, iPad with Chrome)?
    • What exactly happened when they tried to log in to comment? (e.g. login option missing, page not loading, or an error message?)
    • Whether they were trying to log in with a WordPress.com account or post without logging in?
    • If they have any browser extensions or privacy settings enabled that might block pop-ups or cookies?
You can share with us any screenshot they share with you.

This info will help us get a clearer picture of what might be causing the login issue on their end.
