My page list has duplicated itself on the top of the site

This is the second time it has happened, all the page titles are on the right side where they should be, but again on the top of the site as well in a black background. I don’t know how to remove it, but I guess I’d like to learn. I think they could be called sibiling pages?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Also, I’m looking at trying a new theme, but there is no way in demoing them with your photo first and I know there will change the placement if some things on the page as photos, etc. There should be a way to try new themes out before you actually by them.

Hello! I see that you chatted with Andrew about this previously:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/repeating-titles-of-articles

You can see your current menu setup here:

    https://gunsgearandgame.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php

As you can see there are many items listed there. If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you’ll see that the check box next to “Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu” is selected. This means that every time you publish a new page, it gets added to your menu.

You have a few options for moving forward here. You can remove some of the items from the menu. Or you could create submenus so some of the items are hidden behind drop down menus on the front of your site.

I also see that you have two different menus. Perhaps the other one is the one you want set public on your site?

One thing that may help this situation is that you seem to be using Pages for post-type content. Rather than publishing everything you want to write about as a Page, I would suggest moving some of this content to a Post.

Pages are meant for static content, such as an About page or a Contact page. Where Posts are meant for updates for your followers, articles, quotes, pictures. Pages do not get emailed to your subscribers and Posts do. Pages also do not appear in the Reader or in RSS feeds.

Let’s solve your menu issue first, then we can chat about themes. :)

Let me know if you have any more questions!

I wish I had known about some of the things you mentioned, but it seems rather late now to change everything.

The content is the list with a black background at the top which I want to remove.

Well I tried to make some changes and I think I just lost my primary article list to the right. I havae to leave here for a moment to check and see if I just made it worse by deleting the wrong thing.

Alright. Let’s talk about your goals for these areas on your site. What do you want to see in the menu at the top of your site (the part with the black background)? And what do you want to see in the list along the right side of your site?

I would still encourage you to shift your posting from Pages to Posts. We have tools you can use to display your recent posts rather than a big list like you have on the right. You can also enable ‘related posts’ which will show readers other posts with related categories.

I want to get rid of the menu with the black background and leave the one on the right side for now. If I could convert all the pages to posts, I’d do it in one fell swoop, but it probably can’t be done. I’m not sure how to do, and I don’t think I want to try at this moment, I’d just like to get my site running/looking correct again. I’m interesting in sseing how other sites look, even if I have to pay for one. I just want to make my site better looking than what it was as well.

Someone told me go to manage pages, and I did, but they didn’t explain what I should do there or how to do it, so I was still lost.

One thing wrong with WordPress, is that you have to buy a site before you can see how your design will look there, and function.

I want to get rid of the menu with the black background and leave the one on the right side for now

I can help you do this. We are going to create a blank menu and assign it to the top menu location. That way the menu on the side of your page can be different than the one at the top.

The first step is to create a new menu. We can do that from the menu page linked below
    https://gunsgearandgame.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php

At the top of the page you’ll see a link to create a new menu.

On the next page name the new menu “empty menu” and click “create menu”

The next step it to assign the empty menu to primary navigation. To do that, click the “Manage locations” tab at the very top of the page, select “empty menu” from the dropdown menu, and click “save changes”.

When you visit the front page of your site, the menu will be gone.

Once that’s done, let me know if you’d like to make any more changes and I’ll be happy to help you with them.
