My page text only, yet is slow to load, due to pre-loading wordpress scripts

I have just one static page at WordPress. The page is about 500 kilobytes, with simple text formatting and no pictures. It is taking much longer to load as a WordPress.com page than the same page loads as a local html file on my local machine. According to an online load-time profile utility, the slowness is mainly due to pre-loading scripts from WordPress.com. But I’ve visited various other WordPress.com blog pages without the slowness in load time that I’m seeing at my own page. I thought the particular Theme might’ve been at fault, but this evening I changed the Theme and didn’t see an improvement.

When I download the page as a “Webpage, complete” it is almost 1500 kilobytes. That’s almost a whole megabyte of additional bytes that WordPress is tacking on. Obviously, that’s going to slow down the load time. Is there something that I can do as a non-paying user to improve the load time?

You might try breaking up your content to a few different posts/pages and then linking to them through a Table of Contents-style page. This article might give you some ideas for how to do this:
