My paid up domain has disappeared, why?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have been using http://thehovian.com as my main domain for my wordpress blog at http://xenophonsalbion.wordpress.com/. I have paid for this domain and have automatic subscription in place, so it should never run out.

I have posted a new post today and find that http://thehovian.com has completely disappeared from my domain list. Why????
And now support is closed over the weekend, I’m not happy about this

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The problem appears to be at your domain registrar, godaddy, since the DNS records for that domain name are pointing at their servers, not at the wordpress.com servers.

See here and scroll down: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/thehovian.com

You need to go back to godaddy and point the domain back at wordpress.com.

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

It will take appoximately 24 hours for that change to take affect and then you can go back to settings > domain, add the URL back in and be golden (assuming your domain mapping here has not expired). You can check your domain mapping status at the bottom of dashboard > store.

    Thanks for the reply

But I registered thehovian.com through WordPress (not godaddy) and I had the subscription on auto renew, it shouldn’t have disappeared like that. I didn’t register the blog at godaddy so I can’t claim it there or re-point the domain. I don’t know how it is now registered with godaddy, but I have paid for and now lost my primary domain.

I have now started an account at godaddy and claimed thehovian.co.uk and have it – at extra expense – as my primary domain, but I have lost the .com and my money by the looks of it

Feels like WordPress have ripped me off

  • thehovian.com expired on August 13, 2011. There was no transaction processed for this domain since the first renewal on August 13, 2010.

The only renewal transaction that we have recently processed on your account was the renewal of marx-was-right.com on August 29, 2011.

As these domains were purchased via PayPal, auto-renew would not have been an option on either.

staff-blorbo, thanks for catching the expiration date. I totally didn’t see that. I must have still been coffee deficient.
