My password protected posts are not requesting the password – they're visible…

I have password protected several of my posts on WordPress (for University assessment/Copyright reasons), and on Dashboard they are listed as password protected, and the password is clearly written underneath – however, the public can see these posts without having to enter the password at all. They are still listed as “Protected:”(post title), but the option to type in a password isn’t appearing – it just shows the entire post straight away.

    Can someone please help?
(I can’t make these posts totally private just yet as they are being assessed over the period of about two weeks)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

http://sineadshephard.wordpress.com/ – only has 2 Posts both of which seem to be public – what is the URL of the blog that has “several posts” – that will help us give you accurate advice or refer you to the staff if the code for your site is actually broken

Keep in mind that WordPress.COM will remember you if you have logged into a Password protected Post / Page and come back to that page not having logged out – I think you will still see the content and not be ask for the password again

Ah, I hadn’t realised that it would actually link to the other blog, I didn’t want to link the actual blog that I need help with so as not to risk any copyright issues :/

It was my tutor that contacted me, they hadn’t looked at my blog before (and therefore hadn’t logged into the password protected posts before), but they could still see them. So perhaps something is actually broken with my site? Do you know how I can contact a staff member directly?

I flagged this for staff attention – the will reply in this thread –

they also have the ability to email you at the email address of record for you account – they can also see any other blogs on your account and look at them

Just to double check, the blog you need help with is hosted here on WordPress.COM? (not all “WordPress” blogs are hosted here)

    Hi there,

If you’d like I can indeed take this private, however I can already see the issue at hand. All of your password-protected posts use the same password. As soon as one of the post’s password is entered then all of them will be revealed in such a scheme (this is how WordPress.com and WordPress.org both work).

Is it possible that your professor came to your site and entered the password for one of your protected pages and then was able to see all of them, as opposed to just loading the page and everything being already visible? Note that when I visited your page the protection was active and I could not see the contents of your password protected pages.

Aha, my tutor just emailed me as he had just figured this out too :] Thank you for your help!
