My patience is out!

  • Can you please confirm which site it was in your account where you couldn’t find the option to switch yourself?

  • Unknown's avatar

    OK.
So, for example in this new site, there isn’t option to switch to classic editor.
Please, just look on It and say, if It is there, or not.

Please, could You switch this site to classic editor?
    https://noguriclubsk.home.blog/

  • Thanks for confirming the site.

You are using Modern Business on that site. Modern Business was specifically created for the block editor, along with Business, and all the other variants of that theme we have on WordPress.com. The reason you don’t see the option to switch to classic on your site is because the classic editor won’t work with these themes – these themes make use of special page templates created in the block editor, and which can only be edited with the block editor.

Using the classic editor breaks these themes, so we automatically disable it if your site uses one of these themes.

If you switch your site to any other WordPress.com theme, you’ll be able to switch to the classic editor.

No problem, I’ll switch to another theme.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hooray!
I have switched a theme on one accessible theme and It realy helps!
So, I think, that issue is solved.
    But, I have another question.
Can I only created a free blog sites with for example noguri.home.blog and not as noguri.wordpress.com?
    Thank You.

  • Can I only created a free blog sites with for example noguri.home.blog and not as noguri.wordpress.com?

This will depend on the option you pick in the first step when you create a new site.

If you choose the Blog option, you will get one of our free .blog subdomains.

If you choose Business or Professional, you’ll have a WordPress.com address as the free option. Note that you can select Business or Professional, but still set up your site as a blog. Those options at the start just control what default theme is used, and for some kinds of sites we pre-populate them with some demo content, but you can delete that and replace it with your own content.

If you already have a .home.blog address, you can also change it to a WordPress.com address from My Site ->Manage ->Domains:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

However, you won’t be able to use noguri.wordpress.com, as that address already exists.

    Thank You,
but why is write ‘upgrade your site and save’? It means, that those sites are nolonger free?

  • Unknown's avatar

@kokkieh That seems to be the Catch 22. When creating a new free site then choosing “Blog” gets you a .blog address and a theme that can be reverted to the “classic” dashboard.
If you choose “Business” when creating a new free site (to make sure you get a .wordpress.com suffix) by default you get the Modern Business theme and no option to return to the classic dashboard (unless you change themes…which you wouldn’t know was the solution unless you’d seen this particular thread.

  • Anyone can register .wordpress.com site addresses. A work around is to type the desired site address in to your browser and visit the page. It’s just a generic landing page of ours. If the address is available you’ll see a link, “Do you want to register malnwoke.wordpress.com?” Use that link.

  • Unknown's avatar

staff-zinnia The workaround may work but that option isn’t spelled out when people reach https://wordpress.com/start/site-type?ref=calypso-selector though. They are forced to follow the links presented. So most naturally click on “Blog” and get a .blog address whatever they type into the search bar there .

  • It is true that we would like to steer folks more towards the [site].[category].blog options, we’ve found that folks engage more with that, but the [site].[wordpress].com options won’t be going away either.

I have also another question. Why is sometimes write, if I have created site those things in upgrade link as ‘upgrade Your site and save’?
Why save? I don’t understand. This free site is limited?

  • Free sites are free for life, but some features do require a paid plan to use.

For example, you can preview some upgrade-required site customizations, but you’d need a paid plan to save them.

Thank You very much, also big thanks for helping me with those unaccessible things. So, blind people knows some good themes, which are accessible for Us, so don’t worry. Also, thank You with this explanation of .wordpress.com use and also with this saving, because I thought, that some of My blogs will be deleted.

  • Happy to help! :)
