My phone number in changed but WP didn’t recognized it

  Recently, the company who supplies phone services changed my phone number from +84 169….. to +84 39…. . But somehow, when I tried to change my number on wordpress, the system didn’t let me change my saying that It didn’t recognize my number and my number didn’t exist. How do I change my number to my right number?

  Hi there,

  That would imply the area code for the phone number changed. We validate the area code section of a phone number against known lists of area codes for particular countries to ensure people don’t accidentally add invalid phone numbers.

  If the area code section for your phone number has changed, it will likely need to be updated in our system before you’ll be able to use that number.

  Can you please tell me in what country and city you are located, and also the telephone/mobile company you’re with? Then we can follow up on this on our end.

  Hi there,

  I’m in Vietnam now and I use my mobile phone number so it’s not the area code was changes . This is the link of the official change of my phone number: http://m.sggpnews.org.vn/science_technology/11digit-mobile-phone-numbers-to-be-changed-to-10digits-75203.html

  According to The Ministry of Information and Communications , my mobile phone number was changed from 11 digits to 10 digits. So that made +84 169… became +84 39 … since yesterday. The mobile phone company I’m with is Viettel. This is their website : http://viettel.com.vn/en

  It looks like we’ve had other reports of this issue, but we did not have the information you provided above that the mobile number format for the country had changed.

  I’ve added this information to the open bug report for this, which will hopefully help us resolve this faster, but I’m afraid I cannot give you a timeline.

  In the meantime I would suggest you consider using an authenticator app like Google Authenticator or Authy instead to get your 2FA codes, and please make sure you have a copy of your backup codes printed out and stored somewhere safe should you need them.
