My photos have vanished from my draft post.

I’ve just finished a rather long post (worked on only on my PC, not on the app). I was about to preview it when I saw that lots of the images I’d already loaded and organised have vanished! I’ve not used up my storage space so I don’t know why this is. I now have to start again, which is very frustrating. I don’t want to try to go back to an earlier revision because I’ll most likely lose the most recent changes I’ve made.

Hi,
The post is called “2018: The Year That’s Been”. I finally got the images to remain and I’ve since posted it. I think the problem was connected to the fact that, for the first time ever, I decided to load the images directly from another folder, instead of loading them first to the Media Library. Even though once this is done the images appear both in the Media Library and in the Draft Post, they’d soon vanish from the Draft Post but remain in the Media Library. After loading them a couple of times, I decided to load them from the Media Library and this seems to have worked. One of the forum members has already replied to this and told me that I should only load images from the Media Library. If this is the case, the question is why have the option to load directly from another source if it doesn’t work?
Thanks,

Natalie, uploading to the media library from the post should work just fine.
Can you let us know which editor you were using?
wordpress.com/post or wp-admin?
And, were you using the classic or new block editor?

Hi, I’m not sure what you mean by “loading to the media post from the post should work fine”. My problem was loading into the post directly from another folder, i.e. clicking “add image/gallery” then, instead of going to the Media Library, I’d choose to upload the image/gallery directly from another source, e.g. my computer.
I log in using wp-admin and I was using block editor at the time.

Hi there,
Just to confirm, you are going to https://natalievassilaka.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
You are clicking Posts ->Add New to start a new post.
You add an Image block, and in the image block you click the Upload image button.
Is that correct so far? If not, can you please clarify the exact steps you’re following?
When you select and upload an image, does it vanish from the post immediately or only after a while? Does it happen after you do something specific, randomly, or even if you don’t do anything at all for a while?
When you add an image it should at first show a washed out version with a loading spinner on the image. That image is just a placeholder while the actual file is still uploading in the background.
Once it finishes uploading the image block should reload showing the actual image.
This is working fine for me, and the image is not disappearing at all, so the fact that it happens with you means either you’re doing something specific to trigger it, which might indicate a bug, or else your browser is preventing something in the editor from working correctly. But we need exact details of what’s happening to be able to replicate and fix this.
