My pingbacks aren't working

Hello, I have been having this problem where my pingbacks aren’t being sent to the blog I’m linking to. It’s been happening with the Daily Post for a while, and last night I linked to a friend’s blog and they didn’t get the pingback, and they checked their spam too. I have pingbacks enabled and I have them turned on in the discussion module for the posts as well.

I’ve done a bit of digging with your latest pingback “Cartoon Craziness Challenge”, and I was able to locate the pingback on the associated blog:

Can you let me know if you don’t see the pingback on your side? Also, can you pass along URLs to any other posts that aren’t appearing correctly as pingbacks?

Okay I do see that pinback, but what’s funny is that I tried changing my theme to see if that was the issue, because this started happening around the time I was given a premium theme and I switched to it. Then I took out the link, saved it, then reinserted the link and saved it again and subsequently discovered I’d accidentally linked out to the wrong page. My post actually links out to a different page which isn’t showing the pingback.

I see both The Empty Booth and The Sweater on the Contrasts Weekly Photo Challenge here:
Did those just recently show up when you switched themes? The theme shouldn’t have anything to do with whether or not a pingback is registered.

Yeah, they had to have registered just last night, because those posts have been up for about two weeks now and it was last night around 23:00 Central time that I switched my theme from Mimbo Pro to Twenty Fourteen. Those pingback were definitely not there before.

What’s more, I had edited those two posts to put in a “more” code so they wouldn’t display full text on my front page — this might be why the “Between” entry is still not showing — I haven’t edited that one.

Hey Rob,
Yeah I’m not seeing the Between post as a pingback. That’s definitely odd. Can you try adding the “More” code to that post and seeing if that forces the pingback to appear on The Daily Post entry?

Hey Rob,
That’s very odd. You shouldn’t need the More tag in order for the pingback to appear on The Daily Post or any WordPress.com blog for that matter. Can you let me know the next time you publish a post that should create a pingback without inserting the More tag? I’m currently unable to reproduce the error (my pingbacks appear with and without the more tag), but I’ll take a closer look with your next post.

I will do, but I want to point out that I don’t think it’s the more code, but the theme I was using previously, Mimbo Pro. I think that editing and updating these posts after changing back to Twenty Fourteen is what triggered the pingbacks to register. Perhaps it’s some kind of rogue code in that theme? The Daily Post guys also said it shouldn’t be the theme, but really that’s the only thing I can think of that coincides with when the problem began.

Hey Rob,
I just enabled the theme on a test blog and was able to successfully generate a pingback on a Daily Post photo challenge so I’m not entirely sure it’s the theme. Let me know the success of your next post!

Thanks for reporting back. To summarize, when you were using the Mimbo Pro theme without the More tag, your pingbacks were not working. However, now that you’ve switched the theme to Twenty Fourteen, your pingbacks are working without the More tag. Is that correct?

That is correct. Furthermore, my pingbacks weren’t working with the more code on Mimbo pro either.

Hey Rob,
I’ve tested out the Mimbo Pro theme with and without the “More” tag. I was able to generate a pingback both ways. It doesn’t seem like this is an error with the theme. Can you try the Mimbo Pro theme again and let me know if you experience any additional errors with pingbacks?
