My post doesn't appear in reader
-
I was wondering why my post does not show up in the reader. The number of tags and categories does not exceed 15, which would triggger the non-listing in reader. This has been an on-and-off problem over the past two months.
Thanks for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I notice the same problem for my blog at vintagephotolibrary.com
Some my posts however did have more than 15, but I deleted them. I wonder if there was some kind of automatic ban of all posts in reader from a blog that had a post with more than 15 tags.
-
There’s a support article that indicate those posts in which the total number of tags and categories exceed 15 are automatically banned from appearing in the reader. The support article is here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts
With that in mind, I’ve kept that total number under 15, but I still have posts not included in the reader categories for cats and photography in an on-and-off manner over the past month. And, of course, I have some crossover in which a post is for both cats and photography. It defeats the purpose of tagging and categorizing posts.
However, I wonder if it’s connected with the number of changes in the UI over the past 60 days.

Hmmm, well I have posts that are within the threshold of total 15 tags/categories and still are not appearing in the reader. Something is either wrong with the reader or WP has changed the manner in which posts are put in the reader. It is very odd.

It is odd. I’ve noticed a lot of members are experiencing problems with the reader regardless of which browser they’re using. But, if WP has written in their support article is their policy regarding on which posts make it into the reader, they should have made it more clear from the beginning.

Hi there,
This thread is tagged for Staff assistance. Please subscribe so your are notified when they respond. For others who use search and locate this thread the reasons for non-appearance on Topics pages are here >
http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts If you have assigned too many Categories/Tags to your posts, then you need to edit and delete. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/ After removal note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there. -
[opinion] It’s my opinion that it would be next to technically impossible to display each and every post under the most popular topics for in excess of 35 million blogs each and every day. It’s also my opinion that if that were the case the usefulness of the Topic pages would descend in a downward spiral. I believe the display on the most popular Topics pages is randomized. Admittedly I could be wrong, but If I were the programmer I would definitely randomize the display. [/opinion]

Thank you very much for your reply. It’s much appreciated.
I understand that every blog post for a given tag/category cannot be posted for the very reason you’ve given. If posts that appear in the reader are randomized, a brief mention of random selection like “Posts are randomly chosen” would be nice. It would alleviate some of the concern.
Thanks again.

I know before, it sure appeared to be that all posts with a given tag were placed in Reader, but maybe it needed to be changed due to the amount of posts written. But I do notice that the tag photography has posts that range from a few minutes ago and then there is a huge gap to photos showing 18 hours ago. It does appear like the Reader is showing results very differently than before.

I don’t envy Staff when it comes to coping with the Reader. If they were to deck it completely I wouldn’t be surprised because it’s a huge time suck to maintain given the opportunistic spammers and other bloggers who are attempting to game it day in and day out.

I scrolled back about eight hours in the category/tag for photography, cats and White Christmas (Christmas night slowdown). It appeared reader was behaving as normal, but then again my post for today didn’t show in the results. My post for today had 6 total tag/category listed, and those posts listed ranged in the 6-10 total tag/category.
Reader must be having a serious case of the hiccups. :)
Thank you photolord and timethief for taking time out of your Christmas celebration.

Hi there,
I’ve made a note of this already with our internal team, and I’ll add the concerns raised in this thread to that.
Cheers!

Hi all,
There was an issue with posts that weren’t in Standard Format not correcting attributing to the Topics. That issue is now resolved! You will have to clear your caches but then you should see this working again.
Here is more information about how to clear your cache:

Hi There,
I am still having problems with reader. I have cleared my caches and keep my topics under 15. I have not seen my posts appear in reader for almost 3 weeks.
I have another question; Normally when i post i make the post sticky, then after a few days i update the post from sticky to normal. Does this affect my future posts from coming up in reader?
My website is http://voxifit.wordpress.com
Best Regards
Owen

Hi @voxifit, I checked your blog, and you happened to have an affiliate link (a link to a site that sells something) in one of your “related articles” and that autoflagged your blog. I reviewed your blog and it looks ok, so I unflagged it. Be careful posting links to sites that sell items (including Amazon, although we do allow Amazon links, used sparingly), because this is a popular tactic for spammers to drive unsuspecting readers to disreputable sites. You only had that single link, so I don’t think it’ll be a major issue for you, but that was blocking your site from appearing in the Reader. It should start appearing now!

Yeah, there are still major problems for my site not appearing in reader at all. Here is an example:
http://vintagephotolibrary.com/2013/01/05/arrival-olympic-1911-big-ship/
This post has less than 15 tags, and does not show up in the reader for the tag new york harbor: http://en.wordpress.com/#!/read/topic/new-york-harbor
Can you look at my blog and see what I might be doing wrong? I am using the Pinterest theme. Is this theme not compatible with WP’s reader?
