My post has appeared as a Comment on my About page – why?
-
So, I made my first post last night, and it somehow appeared as a comment to my about page. See what I’m saying here: http://tympanictransplant.wordpress.com/about/ why is this? And how can I fix it so that posts are independent of my About page? I don’t want to get a stupid e-mail every time I post to my home page because it thinks someone is commented on my about page.
Also, I can’t edit my Home page on the Pages tab from my dashboard because it doesn’t appear as a page. Also stupid. I understand from reading other posts that it’s in the layout or whatever. What kinds of limitations does this leave me with, and what I can do about that? I’m not understanding what the “sticky home page” or whatever is. And yes I did read the wordpress support page on having 2 home pages. I didn’t understand it.
Thanks.

There are themes like the one you chose that have Home, Blog, etc. tabs (not actual pages) which are coded into the template and cannot be edited or removed. You can choose a different theme if you do not like this built in feature. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/category/homefrontblog-tab/

How to create a Post http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/There is only one pages on a blog, (aside from the Archives and Categories pages) that will display all your posts in the blog. This is normally the front page but it can be changed to another static page. The settings for which Page displays all your your Posts is found here >

A sticky post is meant to be used on a temporary basis for short term announcements. Choosing to create one that will always be there is not a choice I would make. Choosing to have more than one sticky post often creates editing problems that we Volunteers have to help with here on the forum.

Okay, that still doesn’t answer my question.
Why is my post (which I *do not* intend to make sticky) appearing as a comment on my About page?
-
-
Because it was considered a “related post”. You can go to Appearance>Extras and tick the option “Hide related links on this blog” then click Update Extras. Or you can go to Pages>Edit and edit your About page to disable commenting.
-
Could it be that because I put a link to my About page in my post that this is a “pingback?” I’m new to that concept.

Ah yes, if you put a link to the About page in the post, that’s it. You can go to Settings>Discussion and untick the option “Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article”. Or you can simply delete the comment.
But If I were you I woudn’t keep comments on in the About page.
