My Post Title and my opening Image does not show up in Reader?
-
I’ve never had that happen before? Is it too late to fix it if it’s always published? The post doesn’t make much sense now because my title acted as my first sentence too. When you go to my actual blog, it’s all intact as it should be, but none of my followers are clicking on the post in their reader because it doesn’t look right? Any help greatly appreciated!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Asides don’t have titles. I think you created an Aside rather than a Standard post. Edit the post and change the post format to “Standard”.

and the post will be Standard post format unless you change it. -
my opening Image does not show up in Reader
Currently, when a post with the Standard, Aside, Link, Quote, or Status post format contains a video or audio embed or slideshow, that embed is pulled out and used in the Reader. Otherwise, it uses an image from the post.
If the post has the Gallery or Image post format, a video or audio embed in that post would not be used in the Reader – one or more images would be used instead.
The way our RSS feeds work is that it pulls and displays the first image it finds inside the post content. When the Reader looks for an image, it goes for the featured image first and then an image inserted into the post — if there are no images that meet the size criteria mentioned above, it will display the image as a thumbnail instead of a large image.

You are a lifesaver! You are right. I was experimenting with how some of those different formats looked (by previewing) and then went on to post using that same screen. Last question? Will making this fix cause a new published post to appear, losing the current Likes and comments I already have? Thank you so much! Stephanie

No if you edit the post and change the format it won’t affect the likes and comments on the post.

Okay I went to all three links you gave me but I still cannot figure out how to change this from an Aside to a Standard Post. I have the Splendio theme if that helps?
-
Dashbaord > Posts > All Posts
hover over post tile click “edit”
In the far right hand column in the Format module
Standard
Aside
Image
Video
Quote
Link
Gallery -
Okay, I follow everything you say until it’s time to look for a Format module in the right hand column. I only see boxes for Publish, Categories, Tags, Featured Image? Nothing about Formats?
-
Oh Wow! I do apologize. I just went here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/splendio/ and discovered that theme doesn’t have post formats. I’ll tag this thread for Themes Staff assistance because I do not know how to help you. Another Volunteer may answer prior to Staff but I tagged the thread so it will not fall through the cracks and escape attention. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Thank you for all the time! I feel like I stole time from you TimeThief! Seriously, now I don’t feel so bad about not being able to “follow directions.” Lol. Now Let’s see if I can figure out how to subscribe to this thread!
-
There’s a “Subscribe to Topic” link in the thread’s sidebar.
There’s also this below each comment box in the thread:

Yes checking the latter is how I see your helpful responses. Thank you! Ps. Cannot get over how much lower the clicks are on this post than usual without a Title and Image. Upsetting since I worked hard on it..

If someone uses Post Formats, that’s what happens to the RSS feed, even if the theme doesn’t DISPLAY post formats. This is a common problem.
-
Really? I assumed if the theme didn’t provide post formats there would be no display of them in the Format module. If that module isn’t appearing on creativebynight’s Admin page on the post in question, then how could she have selected an Aside? Confused … unless of course, she’s creating posts on the dratted http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ page where the auto-save is not always functioning there, instead of creating posts on here own blog’s dashboard at Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New ie. here http://thequotegal.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
-
Anyone using the New Post button gets an Aside, whether or not they select that post format.
-
Okay, so now that she has published the post and she cannot find the Formats module when she edits the post, I assume she is sentenced to deleting the post thereby breaking the link, and then having to create a new post on her dashboard. If so, that sucks!
-
You used to be able to find the formats, whether you used them or not, on the right-hand side of the edit page. That’s not an improvement.
-
I’m leaving the tagging for Staff up on this thread as I want to secure a response from them re: this post formats issue. Worse still there’s another thread here too https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/incorrect-display-on-reader-page-of-my-newest-entry?replies=5

Just a thought, but can’t you add post format to a theme by editing some of the PHP files associated with the theme?
I’m thinking of something related to this.
I have successfully added post formats to themes using this method in the past, but maybe something has changed since then?

@bcollins33
Please don’t post anything at all about WordPress.ORG here. It only creates confusion. this thread is tagged for Staff. Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in order of datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected. By posting into the thread your are moving the timestamp forward which means it will take creativebynight1 longer to get the help from Staff that she needs.
