My posts are not showing who liked them

Hello. I have been gone for quite a few months due to a few deaths in my family, and while gone had made my site/blog private. Upon returning last night and making it public again, I noticed that none of my individual posts are showing who has liked them. I can see who and/or how many likes each post has via the Admin pages, but when viewing an individual post in my blog, not only don’t I see a “like” button, but I no longer see who has liked them. This is very disheartening – seeing who has liked them and other’s seeing who or how many have liked them, was a huge motivational tool for me. Likes are STILL turned on for all posts and pages – that setting is correct, yet I do not see a “like” option on any of my individual posts, nor do I see who has liked them on any individual post. Can you please advise me of what’s happening and how to resolve it?

Additionally, with the great many changes to the site’s programming during my absence, I’ve also noticed that my “followers count” is now missing from my site as well – I used to have it as a widget and showing on all of my posts and pages – and when going into the customize area, I do not see it anymore. Can you please explain how to resolve this as well?

The new and many changes seems to have made the site far more complicated to navigate and find things – it used to be so simple – simple is good. I’d so very much appreciate you please looking into these 2 issues I’m having and getting back to me (via email – even if posted in the help section, an email response will help me in knowing there’s been an actual response, at your utmost earliest convenience to explain and help me resolve them.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Kimberly!

To clarify, you’re not seeing a “Like” button on any WordPress.com sites? Or just on your own site? Can you make sure that you have third party cookies enabled?

As for your follower count, I do still see this displayed on your site in your Follow Blog widget:

Is this what you were looking for? If not, can you tell me a bit more about how your followers were displayed so I can figure out which widget you were using before?

Hi Shawna, and thank you. Yes, I do have 3rd party cookies enabled, I’ve never changed my settings on my browser since I was last on WordPress many months ago, and just checked. I’m using Chrome, which I’ve used since my inception on WordPress – and since I’ve come back, a few days ago, enabled public viewing again, when viewing my site, I do not see a like post button on each or any of my individual posts at all, and do not see any of the many likes I had received for them prior to going private months ago. I checked 2 friend sites and I’m not seeing the like option/button for their individual posts either. There must be a like button showing, as someone liked one of my posts, but I; however, am not only not seeing the like button, but also not seeing the users who liked it as I once did, directly under my posts.

In reference to your other question – I do not see the how many are following me widget either (which used to appear on all of my pages), and again, when I go into customize it doesn’t show where it used to, and while searching for – there is nothing for “followers” or “count” that comes up in the widget search. I’m not sure what’s going on. It used to just say something like “XXXX Following PlanetDreamDiaries.

    Once again, thank you.

FYI while viewing my own site, I’m also no longer seeing the “follow my blog widget showing anywhere. Strange no? I’m seeing no options other than comments and the ability to like comments – including not seeing my own widgets that you’re apparently seeing – as well as other’s if someone was able to like my post today. Something’s amiss Dr. Watson. :) Again, I’m using Chrome, the only browser I’ve ever used with WordPress and the only one I will use – and I can’t view the like button on any of my posts or pages, cannot view all of the people who’ve already liked them on my posts or pages, do not see the follower counter or “follow me” widget on any of my pages.

Anything you can throw around with your peers to come up with a reason and resolution would be so very much appreciated. Again, thank you Shawna.

It sounds like your browser isn’t fully rendering your site for some reason, causing all of the problems you’ve described.

Do you have any social media blocking plugins installed, such as DisconnectMe?

Can you also try clearing your cache and cookies?

I clear cache several times a day – I’m an “empty cache junky” – and nope, I don’t have any social media blocking plugins – in fact I have no plugins at all. Next possibility? LOL

Got it!! It was my adblock on chrome – which is very odd, because I’ve always run adblock on WordPress in the past and never had a problem at all. Why would “likes” or other featured programming be considered an add? They shouldn’t be, nor were they ever before.

That is odd indeed! I’m glad you were able to determine the cause. I’m not 100% sure why AdBlock would be blocking this functionality. Can you set an exception just for WordPress.com?
