My Posts Getting sent to Notification Bell
-
How come whole posts get sent to my followers notifications now? Is there a way to just make post send to email and to the regular reader thread? My longer posts really don’t belong under the notification bell. I’m not trying to send them as comments to people…
Thanks for any help.

Hi @theburningbushandtheburningbra, the notification itself should just have a title and a few words, but if they click through that, they’ll get a reader-like view of the post, as well as options to like or respond.
Are you running into any trouble with this?

Hi Supernovia,
I don’t want the whole post clicking open in their notifications. I’d like the post to just go to email or to be found in the normal reader. I don’t know why posts get sent to the notifications like they are a comment now. I want to know if there’s a way to stop it from going to the notifications. Does that make sense?
Thanks for trying to help!
I just don’t like this new feature. It’s unnecessary. And people can’t delete posts from notifications like they can emails.
Thanks again. -
Hi there,
This is a setting that individual followers control, just like they control whether or not they want email notifications if they already follow your site in the Reader. It’s not something you as site owner have control over.
Your posts will only appear in the notifications area if a follower specifically enabled that option for your site under https://wordpress.com/following/manage in their account. There isn’t an account-wide setting for this, and it’s not enabled by default when someone follows a site.
If one of your readers have been complaining about this, you can share that link and screen shot with them so they can see where to turn this off – they likely enabled it by mistake at some point, not realising what that setting does :)

Hi I’ve experienced the same thing and I would like to message you about it, but I can’t find a link to your blog on here. Would it be ok to email you?
Thanks

I’m not sure I understand how I can help you Mae Louise Woods. I have received two no-reply emails from you. One explaining you feel you and other women are being targeted by a misogynist bots or a site that does this. And whereas wordpress does indeed have a problem with this kind of thing lately, my question in this forum was about my posts showing up in my followers notifications, rather than just to their emails or in the general feed. The staff member Kokkieh answered my question, so that now I understand what happened and how to tell my followers how to fix it. I am very sorry for your distress on wordpress, however. I don’t know how to make it a better place because they don’t allow a way to block people other than “private mode” which takes you out of the action. I don’t actually feel comfortable emailing back and forth at this time and don’t know why you couldn’t find my blog here. Lots of glitches, I guess? I hope everything works out for you and that the staff/tech people address your concerns. You deserve to feel safe and comfortable blogging. ~Mina

Hi Mina
Thanks for your response, my question was about an account that you had previously raised concern about. The thing that is really important is that that same account later trolled me. Moreover I was writing a blog about how women should be protected from abuse. I have additional information that makes me think it was a deliberate and targeted harassment. I would have liked to respond to your initial thread on this issue but it was closed by WordPress (presumably because they thought that the harassment was random and not deliberate)
I was wondering if I could explain more about it over email. My email is (email visible only to moderators and staff)
If it is too distressing for you to discuss then that is fine. I completely understand how depressing this kind of attack is.
Thanks
Mae

Hi @maelouisewoods,
Email addresses are redacted in public forums, so only staff members are able to see them. I would reach out via the OP’s contact form if you want to reach them.
Also, in order to keep threads on topic and prevent the OP from receiving email notifications, I wanted to see if you could create a new post if you have any additional questions?:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1
Feel free to add the
modlooktag to the thread so staff can respond immediately. Thanks!
