My posts never show up in Tag Surfer
-
No matter how I tag my posts, no matter what tags I apply to when I Tag Surf, my own posts never show up in my Tag Surfer.
To be really scientific, I tried tag-surfing for the tag category “299 words,” a tag nobody uses but me. Even then, my own posts didn’t appear in the Tag Surfer window.
Reason? I’d like to think my posts show up for others to see.

@davidbdale
I just looked at your blog and noticed that you do not have a categories widget in your sidebar and that you do not have wordpress catgories noted just under the title the way I do in my blogs. So you know what I’m talking about pease take a look here http://manypathways.wordpress.com
Under the title “Hoofbeats into the Mist” you see a string of wordpress category tags (Relationships , death , horses , grief , Awareness , Shamanism , All My Relations , Conciousness) and at the end of the article you see a string of technorati tags (Tags: horses, death, grief, memories).
(1) I think you need at set up your wordpress categories aka tags -> dashboard – > manage – > categories -> add category -> (enter all your categories one at a time clicking “add category” after each one). Note that if you have a post under construction and want to add a last minute category “on the fly” this function is available to you but normally the process for establishing categories/tags is done via the walk through I provided above.
(2) Then you need to configure and activate your category widget so it appears in your sidebar. These instructions will help you to do that http://bloggersblurt.wordpress.com/2006/09/17/widget-wizardry/ -
That sounds completely reasonable and it’s extraordinarily generous of you to take so much time to spell it out for me in such detail. I can’t thank you enough.

Also, the tag surfer hides your own posts from you. You may simply be running into that.

Thank you, Matt. That’s a fantastic answer. I wondered if that were true, but didn’t believe it because it serves no purpose I could think of. Anyway, it puts my mind at ease. I implemented timethief’s generous suggestion repeatedly without success and was getting frustrated at my failure.
I will consider this issue resolved, but, if you know, could you tell me the logic behind hiding the poster’s own posts from the poster in tag surfer?
Thanks.
