    “I would like my site to be private, visible only to users I choose”
    That is the setting I have selected under >>settings>>privacy

    This being the case, how did I have :

    10 views today
    61 views on your busiest day, October 1, 2011

    This is a very private blog to me and so I hate what I see here!

    Please clarify

    Is it possibly myself? ( I am always logged on) . . . I find that very strange, but it is possible. Why would it stat one’s own visits?

    @nicholasjohansen
    I am assuming that you are referring to a free blog from and being free hosted by WordPress.COM. If that’s the case and the blog is “private” then your own visits are being recorded due to a recent change to stats.

    Private blogs, which can be viewed only by users chosen by the administrator, now track the page views of all of their users. Traditionally we have omitted the views attributed to a blog’s own users because stats were meant to reflect the activity of the general public. However, this meant that private blogs had no useful stats reports. This change will be especially useful for private blogs that have many users. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/08/18/watch-your-traffic-grow-with-sparklines/

    I do not see how this is more of a “useful report”, but what you say does make sense (recent change). Thank you. I was worried about some glitch or something of that nasty sort.

    I’m happy I was able to point to the announcement of the change and clear this up for you. You’re welcome and best wishes with your blog.

    Additionally, it counts visits to the page that just says “This is a private blog” so even though people can’t read the blog, they are counted.
