My private blogs have been visited ever since the trouble with the code.

Ever since there was a problem with the code, my PRIVATE blogs have been visited a lot, and changing my password did not solve the problem possibly becuase some people have now my links.
I now have send all my posts and pages to the trush for a while, to prevent strangers from reading my private blogs. Any advise how I can protect my private blogs now?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please contact Staff directly by using this link. After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

Before you contact Staff please read this announcement if you haven’t read it previously. Also note that your username is linked to a blog and if you expect it to be private it is not private at this point in time.

I have those blogs for some time and they were never visited by anybody else but me before, only since yesterday.

Did you read the announcement I linked to above?

Private blogs, which can be viewed only by users chosen by the administrator, now track the page views of all of their users. Traditionally we have omitted the views attributed to a blog’s own users because stats were meant to reflect the activity of the general public. However, this meant that private blogs had no useful stats reports. This change will be especially useful for private blogs that have many users.

Your own visits are now being counted.

Does that mean that I now see how many times I check in myself? And could this be backdated, hence the many visits in one day?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes to both questions.

YAY! Timethief, I was just coming with this same Q, and as ALWAYS you have blessed me with the answer! YOU ARE AMAZING, AND I APPRECIATE YOU!!!!

Thank you very much timethief. Sorry, but not being english and not familiar with all therms used on the blogs I ask to many question. I assume this means that I can take all pages out of the trush! Thanks a million, you are a *…big smile

I think you have done very well in English and did not even know it was not your first language. Yes, I believe that you can safely restore the content from trash now that you know your own visits are being counted.

    thanks to you and ‘spell-checks’…smile

Not to rain on anything, but staff can look at any blog here on wp.com. Private or not.

  • Unknown's avatar

But surely your staff is trustworthy enough that we don’t have to worry about them checking in on blogs unless there is a problem and we ask for help;OR?

  • Unknown's avatar

Trustworthy, or too busy, yes. mostly.

It’s just a caution that I’m telling you about. Likely or not likely. Please note that I am a volunteer, not staff.

If you don’t want anyone to see your private thoughts, then don’t publish them online. Even writing in notebooks on paper, some things can become known.

Secrets on paper: My mother-in-law died, but neglected to destroy one notebook with her thoughts about giving birth to twins, giving them up for adoption, and none of us knew about it before. It did all turn out well, the twins found us, and they are wonderful people, but m-i-l did not ever tell us while she was living: a secret she wanted to keep.

Secrets online: There have been cases where private blogs have been suspended for violations of terms of service. There have been private blogs read by staff.

Just use your common sense. Private is only so far.

Password protection and privacy settings are not infallible.
