My Project Is Gone!

  I am doing a project for school using this site. However, beyond actually making the site and adding a page, no other work I put into doing the project is there! Every category I made, post I put up, and essay I put in there on wednesday is entirely gone. I even checked the site before shutting down the computer to make sure everything was in order (I was checking the menus up top really but I didnt realize everything would disappear!) on top of that, this blog shows up twice on my dashboard, even though it has the same address. What do I do? Why did it delete? Can I retrieve it at all?

  Im aware. The portfolio one is the one I spent 4 hours adding content to, and its now gone despite multiple times of saving / uploading. This is my issue.

  Im not having any trouble with the other blog.

  Thanks for confirming the URL in question here.

  • Who has access to your login information?
  • Did you use the same password for your email account and your blog?
  • Are you sharing log-in information with anyone or leaving it where anyone can locate it?
  • Is your password a weak one that others can easily guess?
  • Are you remaining logged in on your computer so anyone can come along and access your blog through it?

  Go to your email program and change the password to a very difficult one because that’s how many hackers gain access to blogs.

  Then read this please knowing that blogs don’t get hacked when security protocols are followed. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/

  1. If you can log-in go here > Users > All Users and delete any user that does not belong there.

  2. Disable post by email > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/

  3. Disable post by voice > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-voice/

  4. Change your blog password to a very difficult one > http://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#change-your-password

  5. Use a secure, encrypted connection to connect to your Dashboard. Under Users → Personal Settings, check the box that says “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages, and click Save Changes.

  I can assure you that might blog was not hacked. What really appears to have happened is, since a minor amount of changes I had made in the beginning of my work (the name, colors, and even adding in the Blogs Category) is that the servers did a reset or malfunctioned in some way, deleting work I placed into it after a certain point in time. I was uploading a large amount of content at once, and perhaps the servers couldn’t handle it (although when I checked my site afterwards, it was all uploaded, and only disappeared the next day).

  Honestly, who on earth would have any interest in painstakingly deleting 16 blog posts and 8 categories?

  It seems the blog has been deleted about 12 hours ago.

  Deleted blogs and posts cannot be restored. Please consider setting up a new blog.

  If you want to make your blog more secure:

  * Please go to your wordpress.com profile page and update your password.
  * Please use a secure password with letters and numbers and other characters.
  * Please do NOT use the same password that you use for email.
  * Please update all of your email passwords to something more secure.

  Please read this warning from the support site:

  “Warning: Please be very careful when adding a new Administrator user to your blog. Other Administrators are effectively co-owners. They have as much power over your blog as you do, including the ability to permanently delete it, and the power to remove you from your own blog.”

  Adding Users

  If an Administrator deletes a blog, it is *NOT* considered hacking.

  Please only give users the minimum rights needed to write on your blog such as Contributor or Author. If you give other users Administrator rights, then that means they will have full control of the blog and they can delete it without hacking. If you give other users Editor rights, then they can delete any posts from the blog without hacking. Authors can only edit and delete their own posts.
