My PW keeps getting rejected even after many re-attempts

    Hi there,

    I am simply trying to reply / comment on a blog post and WordPress keeps not letting me do this. They ask for my user name and PW – I have reset it, HOWEVER: whenever I enter my username (herzco) it refills that field in with my email address AND does not accept my new password that was just created.

    EVen though I created a new password AND sucessfully logged into my account, when I go back to the article (which is at http://ebelllosangeles.wordpress.com/2013/06/14/ebell-club-in-long-beach-bids-adieu/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+EbellLosAngeles+%28The+Ebell+of+Los+Angeles+Blog%29)
    it will not accept my information.

    It also keeps calling me “beth624”

    I really don’t use WordPress so have no idea just what they want and all I want to do is comment on a blog post without it taking 45 minutes AND making me upset.

    What am I doing wrong?

    If you have a WordPress.com account, why not just log in (which you said you can do) before you try to comment on a site? Once you put your cursor in the comment box, it should say that you are commenting with your WordPress.com account. You don’t have to put in your account info again.

    As I mentioned, I tried this over and over to no avail. Did not accept it *even though* I was logged in.

    I’m sorry you’re having this problem. In order to give Staff as much info as possible, can you be more specific about what you encountered when you tried to leave a comment on a WordPress.com site while logged in? Was there an error message?

    OK, here goes.

    I am re-creating the issue step by step to make sure I am correct in describing it as it is complex.

    1) I go to an article to read and comment on it.
    2) When I click ‘submit’ on my comment, I get a red warning box from WordPress that reads: “You’re trying to publish a comment as (email visible only to moderators and staff). You need to log in to that account before you can proceed”
    3) Underneath that notice is a place to fill in both a username and password, however it already has one of my email addresses PRE-FILLED in there, even though that is not my user name.
    4) So I delete what is filled in and put in the correct user name and password, but it does not accept it! I know that I am inputting the correct information and yes, I am aware of what is in upper and lower case, and yes I have tried it multiple times.

    The reason I know it is correct is that I even tried changing my password yesterday in case there was an issue there – So I am putting in the brand new one. When I had gotten the “password change” email and link from WordPress, I clicked on it and input the new information and it let me in to my account. HOWEVER, when I go back to the original article to make the comment, it just does.not.let.me.in.

    And as you can see it is driving me batty to where I just want to not comment and delete my WP account.

    Don’t know what the issue could be but it seems it should not take an hour + out of my weekend to leave a one sentence comment on a friend’s article.

    Oh, and, when I try to change the user name and use the email that was pre-filled in (along with the new password) I get something that says this: “ERROR: The password you entered for the email or username beth624 is incorrect.”

    What? Beth624? Not me.

    It would also help if you could post a URL of where you are having trouble leaving a comment – a URL or three would help the trouble shooting

    Are you positive that you did not register two username accounts?

    I did register a Gravatar a few weeks ago, but not sure how it is related to WordPress? This thing is asking for my WordPress log in info and not anything mentioning / related to Gravatar.

    I am completely confused.

    Should I get rid of my Gravatar profile? The only reason I got it was to have an icon next to my name but if it is a world class headache I’ll try to get rid of it.

    A WordPress.com account is a Gravatar account. Automattic owns both of them. http://blog.gravatar.com/2013/04/03/gravatar-and-wordpress-com-together-forever/

    Is there some password relationship between WP and Gravatar?

    I know one seems to be a subset of the other, but what info should I enter? The article brought up a WordPress window asking for my WordPress password.

    How is Gravatar involved?

    Sorry for dumb quesitons but I am BEYOND irritated at how difficult such a simple thing should be.

    Hi there,

    The Beth624 must have been something they filled in for me? This is not how I have ever chosen a naming convention for any user names.

    And the Gravatar link you sent is also me.

    Should I get rid of one of these?

    Yes there most certainly is. I think it’s possible that you registered two accounts and used the same email address for both accounts.

    You have two separate email address settings at WordPress.com.

    Blog notifications for the admin (like comment moderation, Likes, new subscriptions, etc) are sent to the email address at Settings -> General in the Dashboard.

    Personal notifications (like comments on your post, subscription emails, and upgrade renewals) are sent to the email address at Users -> Personal Settings in the Dashboard.

    Try changing it at http://wordpress.com/#!/settings/ first.

    If that doesn’t work, try Users -> Personal Settings in your blog’s Dashboard.

    Note: After the change you will receive an confirmation email. Please be sure to check your spam/junk mail filter in your email client, if you cannot locate it.

    Thanks so much for your time.

    Since what you wrote above is basically like my trying to learn to read runes, how can I just delete one or both of these accounts?

    This is freaking me out – All I wanted to do was comment on an article.

    How can I lose this Gravatar thing – just get it out of my life – and / or be able to comment on the article? I don’t need to cute picture of flowers next to me name – I thought it would be nice but never thought it would create so much frustration.

    When I sign up for more than one thing am I always supposed to use unique emails? I’m old school – I have no need for 20 different email addresses.
