My sidebar inflates if viewed with IE 6. Any help?

    One more difference between IE 6 and FF!
    My theme is “Shocking Blue Green”.
    I am a paying “CSS Upgrade” user. I have customized my Theme to match my taste. It looks great seen with FF. But viewed with IE 6, the right sidebar grows its width in a way that makes the whole blog look awful. Please have a look at this screenshots comparition (an CSS code too):

    I am no expert at CSS, but very experienced user here. I tried modifying CSS to fix it up. No way, I’m already getting mad here.
    Any charitable soul out there able to throw me some help?
    Many thanks.

    I have redoable lite. IE 6 turn a lot of my blog into green cheese. I recommend FF.

    To display correctly in IE, 5 or 6, theme CSS requires “hacks” that other browsers don’t to make things look right (FF requires a few, as does Safari and Netscape). As I said in the other thread you started about IE5, there are tons of them in my theme’s CSS.

    Thanks for your feedback. Sorr about my previous thread stating I was using IE5. It was a mistake, I meant IE6, that’s why I “closed/resolved” the thread. I know that FF is far superior than IE 5 & 6. In fact, I’ve never used IE. The problem is the people that do use IE, which, according to stats, are an enormous percentage. Unfortunately, you do need to design your website according to the most used browsers, don’t you? You just can’t say “hey, stop using IE and swap to FF”. I guess it’s all about these small “hacks” to fix up things. I wish someone could recommend me some. So, any help out there would be most welcome.

    Dude, you will have to wait for a fair and frosty Friday in Frisco before anyone here gives you specific info on what to do about browser issues. Besides, are you sure you are hosted on wordpress.com, or should you be asking over at wordpress.org? good luck nevertheless.

    Meant to add: if you can add a little note and a link to Firefox in your sidebar, some readers may thank you for your turning them on to what is, at the end of the day, a better browser.

    I am using the WordPress.com service. The .org option is rather too complex for me, I guess. I was attracted to it but eventually I decided staying at .com. Your suggestion would be great if it wasn’t because people are usually reluctant to change browsers…

    Marcos,

    Try changing the width property of your #menu selector. Right now it reads:

    width: 14em;

    Change it to:

    width: 180px;

    This change should fix your problem.

    Espero te ayude.

    BTW, you have some beautiful pictures on your blog… very impressive.

    Muchas gracias Devblog.
    I’m glad you liked my pictures! ;-)
    Well, I tried changing width values like you say, and even other values like padding, margins, etc, always in the “#menu” part of the CSS. The sidebar do reacts every time I modify things, but never on the left margin of the sidebar, which invariably stays «inflated». Anyway, many thanks for your attention. Cheers! – Marcos

    I second that about the photos on your blog. Stunning.

    And I third it. ¡Qué fotos, Marcos!
    But actually my problem is slightly different to those here, but I can’t find a more appropriate forum (and Support is temporarily down): I use BlackLetterhead on FF, which comes up fine, but when I open my blog http://jimenarte.wordpress.com on IE6, a mysterious code (<!–[if gte vml 1]> <![endif]–><!–[if !vml]–>
    <!–[endif]–>

    <!–[if gte vml 1]> <![endif]–>)
    appears at the top of the home page.
    I hear you, lettershometoyou, about freezing Frisco, but might you have any suggestions about what I can do? Oh, I’m not any kind of expert in any of this, but I can follow instructions :)

    OT: Truly, that is a gorgeous blog you have.

    Many thanks for your last message devblog. Your suggestion for changing the CSS code to «margin: 0 0 5px;» has worked beautifully. You’re a magician! This is fabulous. Many thanks for your kind help!!!
