My sidebar resizing doesn't work
-
Why won’t the image on my sidebar change size (get smaller) after I’ve already resized it in my media library? I’ve followed directions and tried to make my sidebar photo smaller about ten times and no matter what I do, nothing happens. I’ve changed the height and length numbers and saved them, but even so, no change on the screen.

How are you posting the image in your sidebar? The code and/or theme might be limiting the size of the image.
Can you post a link to the site you are talking about?
-
I checked the site linked to your username http://louisacameron.com/ and I see that the top image in the sidebar is setup using an image widget with width saved as 400 and height as 403. Try going to Appearance → Widgets, opening the top image widget on the right, and change the width and height values for the image there.
If you’re referring to a different image, please provide a link and describe the image for use as andrewcpht suggested.

Thank you andrewcpht and designsimply for responding to my question. I went to Appearance, Widgets and changed the w and h values for the image in question, but still nothing happens. I also have gone into my media library and rescaled my image there, but no change no matter what I do. I am saving the changes and updating, but nothing.
To answer your questions, andrewcpht, the image is posted in the right sidebar using an image widget and then a url link to the image in my media library. Here is a link to my site: http://louisacameron.com/
Again, I just wanted to make the image a little bit smaller so that it aligns with the width of the text on my sidebar.
Thank you again for your help. I really appreciate it. Louisa

@louisacameron2013, what have you got the height and width set at now in the image widget?
-
I’m not sure why the image widget isn’t resizing properly, but give this a try. Add a text widget and paste the following into it and save and then take a look.
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter" alt="Louisa Cameron" src="http://louisacameronblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/louisacameronheadshot_cropped.jpg?w=300&h=302" width="240" /></p> <p style="text-align: left;">Louisa Cameron writes young adult fiction and teaches cultural anthropology at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Vancouver, Canada, where she lives with her husband, photographer Rob Atkins.</p> -
Thank you thesacredpath. I used the text widget and put in your code. It aligned the photo and text on the left, but not on the right (the photo still went to the edge of the sidebar). So the left side was fixed but not the right side and it looked uncentered, so I didn’t go with it, but I greatly appreciate your trying to help. Thank you.
To answer your first post, the height and width are now set at 400 x 403.

Hmm, I centered the image and left aligned the text. Did the image not center?
If you can put the text widget back in with the code and let me know when you have done so, I can look at it and figure out what went wrong and get things aligned as you desire.
-
Sure thing. I’ve put the widget back so you can have a look: louisacameron.com
Thank you!

The text widget on that theme is a little strange. Change out the code I gave you for what is below and see what you think.
<p style="text-align:center;"><img width="210" src="http://louisacameronblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/louisacameronheadshot_cropped.jpg?w=300&h=302" alt="Louisa Cameron" class="alignleft"></p> <p style="text-align:left; margin-right: 8px;">Louisa Cameron writes young adult fiction and teaches cultural anthropology at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Vancouver, Canada, where she lives with her husband, photographer Rob Atkins.</p> -
That did it! You are the coolest! Thank you so much! I have a quick question. Could I use the text part of the new code to properly align the last widget on that sidebar, which is also not aligned with the rest of the text in the sidebar? I guess I will just try that right now and see if it works.
Thank you again, Louisa -
Yes, and you can even simplify it a little from what we used in the widget at the top.
<p style="margin-right: 8px;">Your text here.</p> -

I’m sorry to bother you again, but I used the code and for some reason, it didn’t align that bottom widget. It seemed straight forward enough…
-
Are you talking about the follow widget? If so, that one would require CSS editing. Do you have the Custom Design upgrade (which is also part of the pro bundle.
-
-
Yes, I mean the follow widget. I don’t know if I have the Custom Design upgrade, but will investigate this week. I have a tutorial scheduled for Friday with someone so I can also see if he can help (it’s an in person one-on-one session). I don’t want to trouble you any more with this tonight. Can I perhaps contact you next week if I can’t solve this through my wordpress lesson? I’ve only been doing this for about three weeks, so it’s still quite new to me. Thank you again for all your help. I really wanted to resize that picture, and I learned something by seeing how this code thing works. Cheers, Louisa

You are welcome and you can just post back into this thread, or start a new one if you wish. I’ll try and keep an eye out for it.
