My site can’t be reached by my domain name

Hi, for years I have my blog with wordpress.com under the address:
    https://mudawanatmonis.wordpress.com

at the same time, I registered this domain name with wordpress.com for my blog and it was always working fine:
    monisblog.com

Currently, my blog can’t be reached by my domain name, while the DNS records on my control panel show me that the DNS is correct and handled by WordPress.com, how can I solve this problem please?

    Best regards, Monis

  • Hi there,

Your domain expired on 4 April. When you paid on 30 May you paid for a domain mapping upgrade, not a domain renewal, as your domain had already been removed from our system at that time.

Currently your domain is in what is known as the redemption period. That means that our registrar has already started finalising the cancellation of the domain and are preparing to either sell it at private auction, or return it to public availability.

I might still be able to get your domain back at this point, but our registrar charges a $80 fee to restore a domain from redemption. If we’re not able to get back the domain the fee is refunded in full.

Please let me know if you want me to attempt to recover the domain.

    Hi kokkieh,

    Thank you for your reply.
When I paid on the 1st of June, I was late because I lost my password, and because my phone was stolen, so it wasn’t easy to recover my password and was a long trip with your support system.

At the 1st of June I paid for two services, I renewed the premium account, and I paid for domain renewal, not only mapping. As you can see in this screenshot below, two payments transferred at the same night, domain renewal first (13 euros) and then the premium account (99 euros). You can find the screenshot here:

All of this means it wasn’t my fault, and I don’t have to pay 80$ plus to get my domain back. I need my domain name back, please.

    Bests, Monis

  • When you paid on 30 May the domain was already in redemption. That is why the system only allowed you to add mapping, and not renew the domain. It entered redemption 18 days after it expired, on 22 April.
    Domain Expiration

If you agree to pay the redemption fee we can try to get the domain back from the registrar, but otherwise you’ll need to wait for them to release it. Please note, however, that part of the redemption phase involves the registrar attempting to sell the domain at private auction, so you run the risk of losing the domain if we don’t try to recover it.

Hi, I still can’t see it my mistake to fix, I’ll not pay the redemption fee.
I’ll move my blog to a private server and cancel my premium subscription.

    Thank you for your help,
    Monis

  • If that is what you prefer.

I hope you are able to get your domain back once the redemption period ends, and that someone else doesn’t buy it before you are able to.
