My site changed out of the blue and I cannot get my settings back

This afternoon I added some photos to my wordpress.com site and everything was fine. I double checked it and everything looked great. Three hours later I came back to my site and everything was changed. My header image is gone, my background has disappeared, my page menus at the top have been moved around and/or changed. Pages that I made years ago and then deleted are now posting at the top. What happened? I even went to try and fix some things and as I clicked on a page it said my account doesn’t exist anymore. I closed everything out and came back to it and it was there again, (thank God), but still all messed up.
I go back into customize and I reset the header image, background, home page, and many other settings. In the customize menu everything looks okay after I fixed it. It seems that my most recent settings are still saved and come back as I manually reapply everything like pictures, etc., but it seems a weird messed up default bug is overriding my settings to mess everything up. After I manually fix everything again back to normal, I then hit save and publish and when I check my site, its still messed up and my new manual settings don’t seem to stick. It seems to be in some weird default stage not responding to my commands. Please help.

@ kisuhanayori, I checked your site and you still have the header and everything seems to be in place. Did you have topics in your food and fashion pages? I still have all the content in my site and under each topic, but I lost my header, background image, topics have been moved around, etc. What is going on?

No i lost my Header. I had a different picture in it and everytime I try to change its back at the defaults…

As it seems to be a problem lots of us are having I’m sure they’ll get it sorted quickly. Fingers crossed.

Same here – menu order and header picture have changed and I cannot change them back.

I have the panel theme. My background color was black, this afternoon. Now it is set to white, which I think is default. I tried saving the background color to black but it won’t reset. Everything else seems okay. I hope this is a maintenance issue that will resolve itself within the day.

Okay, so I just went back into the main support forum and there are hundreds of post and people saying the same thing. So its an issue from wordpress and they will fix it. One person was saying stuff like this happens every once in a while with wordpress and they inevitably fix it. So while we all have to wait patiently I do have some other questions. I am currently using the free version for a website. Is it really worth paying for the upgrade or should I just keep the free version?
I am also very confused on the whole hosting thing and if I need to buy a domain or host site. Can someone in here clear that up for me?

I’m using the Morning After Theme, so it doesn’t seem to matter what theme we’re using as we all have the same problem.

I am in the same position; just joined and not sure if I should upgrade. Apparently domain user would get more hits and easier to locate with search engines.

@pbarnett, I get a lot of hits and am the first one to come up on a google search in my category, so I am really scratching my head here wondering why I should or shouldn’t purchase. Am I missing something here? Just do a google search for Tortoiseshell Pickguards and I am the first to come up a lot and I only have the free site. I guess it would look more professional to not have the wordpress.com at the end. Is that the only advantage possibly?

I have the same problem. Lost my header and background. I try to re-apply but it wont stay. When I try to enter my blog my PC crashes. HELP

I just manually replaced the old background image, and header image and it saved this time. Also my topic tabs at the top are now back to normal. Yes!!! Wow that was a big scare for everyone including me
