My site disappeared

I cancelled the hosting of my site (happyhomevibes.com), but now why has it disappeared from WordPress where I built it?

I still want to work on it ‘behind the scenes’, I just don’t want it to be ‘live’ anymore.

    Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out. I understand your situation can be frustrating. While we’re here to assist with WordPress sites hosted on WordPress.com, it seems your website is/was hosted with a different provider. However, I’m here to guide you as best I can.

It sounds like there might be some confusion about the roles of your hosting provider, the WordPress software, and your domain name. Let’s work together to clarify things and get you on the right track.

Think of the website host as the land where you build your clubhouse online. The domain name is like your clubhouse’s address, so people can find it. And WordPress is the set of tools you use to build and decorate your clubhouse easily.

Canceling your hosting is like taking down your clubhouse from the land. When you cancel hosting, your website disappears from the internet. It’s like if you removed your clubhouse from its spot, and nobody can visit it anymore. All the stuff you put in your clubhouse, like pictures, stories, or games, goes away too. So, if you cancel hosting, your website and all its content will no longer be accessible online.

It’s crucial to reach out to your previous hosting provider promptly to reactivate your hosting account. Hopefully, they still have a backup of your site that can be restored to a temporary domain. Once your site is restored, you can perform a site export and import it to a WordPress.com site here. We offer free hosting, however we also have paid plans that would allow you to either transfer or connect your domain to your new site so it retains the same address.

Once you’ve completed the setup process, you can proceed to cancel your other hosting. Afterward, you can mark your website here as private, ensuring that it’s only visible to you. This way, you can still access the site while keeping it “behind the scenes,” as you intended.

If you need any assistance or guidance throughout the import/transfer process, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
