My site disappeared from google searches

  • Unknown's avatar

My site has almost disappeared completely from google searches. Up until yesterday if you would type in roxie in google it was on page one. It has been there for quite some time; even if didn’t upload anything new. Certain topics on mynameisroxie would come up on the first few pages of google ie dogs and children with autism, eugune o’neill and blemie; etc. These searches along with others were always on the first few pages of google. Now if you type in roxie it is nowhere on google and the other topics that I mentioned don’t appear either. The only entry I made in the last week was a correction to one of my topics. I omitted a line purposely.

Is any one else having this problem.

Google is in the process of revamping the way they list sites and blogs, and until they’re quite finished there’s no way of telling how, exactly, it works.

Note that we can’t help specific blogs without links to the blog in question, starting with http.

I see from the stream of questions in your profile that you’ve frequently had questions about Google and tag pages, etc. It might be more productive to seek guidance in forums or sites dedicated to Google-wrangling, as our knowledge of Google-specific issues is somewhat limited.

FYI if you’re still using this many tags:

you WILL be downgraded by all major search engines, who will basically consider you some kind of spammer. You’ll want to cut back.

Also, if you want to remain on the front page of google for ANYTHING, you must post more than once a week.

I’m going to delete most of my tags. Does “google” have forums?. Also I just recently posted my site My Name Is Roxie along with my url–http://mynameisroxie.com/– on Twitter but I made it private. I was just curious to see how twitter worked. I just deleted my twitter account today just in case google didn’t like it. Do you know if google is punitive if you posted your site on Twitter?

Could someone direct me to a google forum?

    Thanks for your prompt replies.

I have also had the same issue with my google search ranking. I had been very pleased with it until a few days ago and now I have too have almost disappeared??? I am sure I have not made any changes to the site, number of tags, etc. Is there any settings that could effect this?

    My site is http://www.twentyfirstcenturyretro.com

    Many thanks in advance.

    1. Make Google to revisit your blog often. You can do it by updating your Blog frequently

(If that is not possible then go for the 2nd point)

    2. Add your URL to google once in 1 month atleast. Use Submit URL to Google

    3. Follow Search enigne optimization. Use Search Engine Optimization for your WordPress and Blogspot Blogs guidelines while you post.

Would wordpress.com allow me to implement google webmaster tools? This tool should explain what my violations are. All my popular searches have disappeared as of yesterday July 1/09

Google wants me to paste a code into the source page. I’m not comfortable doing this. Could someone explain the proper procedure for activating google webmaster tools?

Could this be a temporary situation?

Should I wait a few days before getting my site analyzed?

  • Also bear in mind there’s a difference between “not in google”, and “not showing up in the first page or two of results when I search for a particular phrase”. Just because you’re seeing the latter symptom, doesn’t mean you’re not in Google.

http://ismyblogworking.com/ will tell you unambiguously whether or not your blog is indexed by Google.

The instructions in the FAQ aren’t the best. Do what they say, but don’t create a Page. A Page is clumsy for this purpose because you’ll have an oddly named Page hanging around and you’ll wonder about whether you should hide it. If you do hide it, then Google can’t find it.

Instead, create a regular Post, but while in edit mode, set its publishing date for the past, maybe going back to the beginning of your blog. No need to hide it. If it’s dated to be “old” your regular readers won’t see it, but it will always be there so Google can find it.

To say the least, having your site on Twitter will not hurt it. Quite the opposite. Private twitter accounts, however, are neutral in terms of Google; search engines do not pick up on them at all.

Thanks for all your advise. My site is back up on google. I made a new entry and maybe that’s what bumped My Name Is Roxie up again.
The reason I have so many tags and categories is that I don’t have posts. I use pages. I dumped all my tags and categories into 3 posts.
Google sometimes refers to my tags on wordpress.com global tag listings.
Any suggestions on how to thin my tags and categories out?

@roxie, wordpress does not send out pings through pingomatic when you create pages. They only send out pings via pingomatic when you create posts.

That means that you will have to manually ping the permalink address for each new published page yourself whenever you publish a new page.

  • Unknown's avatar

Are pings and pingbacks the same? I receive a pingback in my mailbox when I publish a new page; however when I update the same page I don’t get another pingback. How does one manually ping the permalink address. Who receives my pings?

    Roxie

What you receive in your email inbox is completely different and has nothing to do with pinging of search engines.

When you publish a post here at wordpress.COM, wordpress automatically pings all the major search engines and services like technorati to let them know that you have published a new post. That way the search engines know you have made a new post and can schedule a crawl so that they can add the new post to their search engine indexes and search results. With pages, no such automatic ping is sent out to the search engines by wordpress. Edits to existing published posts are not pinged to the search engines. Pages – edits or otherwise – are not pinged to the search engines.

If you write everything in pages, each time you publish a new page you will have to go to http://pingomatic.com/ and manually ping your site. Do not ping the search engines for post/page edits. I’ve read that if search engines get multiple pings on a single page or post, they suspect foul play and might stop indexing your site entirely.

How do I go about this?
Blog Name: My Name Is Roxie
    http://mynameisroxie.com/
    Or
Do I give my new published page:
    http://mynameisroxie.com/roxie-digs-news-bites-3/a-fish-called-sarah-palin/

    Thanks
    Roxie
