When I try to add it again, its telling me that this domain is already taken – by me!
anyone know what to do? Is there a support contact somewhere, I cant see one!

Hi there, what is the url you are trying to add?

Did you happen to delete that site and are now trying to register it again?

    Hi!
It’s http://www.feelinwarm.com. I don’t think I deleted it. The webpage is still up but I can’t see it in my wordpress account?
    Thanks

  • Hi there,

That domain is registered with Dreamhost.com, and has been since 31 May.

If you own that domain with them and you want to use it with a site on WordPress.com, you need to choose the option to use a domain you already own on the domain search screen. You won’t be able to register a domain with us that already exists.

You can connect that domain here using our domain mapping upgrade, included in all paid plans.

    Hi
Yes that domain is mine and I have had it registered with Dreamhost since 31 may. So it’s definitely me! I created my WordPress account at the same time.

Hmm bit confused. I had access to my site via WordPress and then I didnt??
Now I have to have a paid plan to connect it again?
Forgive me if I sound stupid but Im just confused.
    Thanks for your help :)

Could it be that you are confusing wordpress.com with the wordpress(.org) CMS that you have installed at your dreamhost account?

  • That domain has never been connected to any site on WordPress.com, and you don’t own any sites with us either, at least not in this account. So if you had a WordPress site at that domain it was using the open source WordPress software. It’s a different version of WordPress, and one that you download and install at a hosting provider, like Dreamhost.

In that case you would have had to have a hosting plan as well, so there might be old emails or entries on your bank statement that indicate who that hosting provider was, if not Dreamhost themselves. To get your actual site back, you’d need to contact that hosting provider and hope they still have a backup of your site, though if you’d let your hosting account expire I’m afraid they might not.

A paid WordPress.com plan and domain mapping is only necessary if you want to connect that domain to a site hosted on WordPress.com. But in order to do that you’d first need to create a *.wordpress.com site with us.

I created my WordPress account at the same time.

Just an additional note – the WordPress.com account you’re using to post here is seven years old, created in November 2011.

Oh crap I had no idea there was two different ones… embarrassment
And wow, thats how long ago I’ve been wanting to do this but never went through with it!
Sorry to waste your time mate. I’ll figure it all out.
    Thanks
