my site is blocked by “social networking” filter

My site is being blocked by network filters and several large institutions, being labeled “social networking.” I thought the solution would be to go to wordpress.org, download the software, host the blog on my server, and change the URL so that it doesn’t include “wordpress” (in order to not get caught by the filter). But my IT guy is telling me that it’s a big job and will probably look imperfect at the end of the transfer (really a re-build in his words). Could this be?! Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No, that is not correct. People go self-hosted all the time and have virtually no issues with the transfer. Images can be an issue because the URL’s in the posts will not be the same as the URL’s for the images after you transfer them. Images have to be manually transferred. What most people do if they have images is to leave their images here and wordpress.COM and then they are effectively “hot-linked” in the new blog. In some cases if you have a lot of posts, then the export file from here may have to be broken up into multiple sections and each section imported separately to get around file size limits within wordpress and at the hosting service.
