My site is down.

I host with Siteground and their response is:
I have checked your ticket #2025346 about problems with emails and our tech advised you to update nameservers of your domain to the correct ones:

    Code:
    ns1.siteground366.com
    ns2.siteground366.com

So you were informed about this problem with nameservers 7 days ago.

Unfortunately we are not able to update nameservers of your domain from our end as it is not registered and managed by us.

You will need to contact current domain registrar of thewritestyles.com domain and ask them to update nameservers to the provided ones.

    Best Regards,

    Sergii Skoriak
    Technical Support Team

However, when I contacted the registrar their response is:
    Discussion Notes
    Support Staff Response
    Dear Sir/Madam,

I understand that you are writing in about your domain name. I show this domain name is currently registered with WordPress.com for help with this domain you need to contact them. As we do not provide support here for them. We only provide a connection to the registry for them and do not have access to accounts or the ability to make any changes on their servers to the domain name. You must go through them for all of that.

But when I go to wordpress.com, you say I have no site at all! I honestly don’t know what to do and it is now 10 day! :(

    Hello Kurt,

I am sorry you having these issues.

It looks like your site is not hosted with us on WordPress.com . For help with your site, you’ll want to post at https://wordpress.org/support.

See this link for the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

@thewinningwish I’ve tagged this for Staff assistance with renewing your domain name thewritestyles.com which looks to be expiring in February 2017.

Please check that you are logged in with the username account that originally purchased the domain from WildWestDomains/WordPressdotcom and then look at Manage Purchases in your account at https://wordpress.com/me/purchases

Hi, I have requested support from .org… my site is not there either, please see msgs:
If you registered a domain through wordpress.com, you’ll need to contact them for help changing the domain’s name servers. WordPress.org is not the same as WordPress.com.

You should probably ask WordPress.com Support instead.

I did a quick google on “change nameserver wordpress.com” and found this:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/

But please follow up with wordpress.com support if you have questions.

    Sorry my website is http://www.thewritestyles.com.
I have posted the same complaint/query on their support site, but as yet, no takers 🙁

I honestly don’t know what to do… My site is definitely a WordPress.org site, although I initially had a WordPress.com… I couldn’t do what I wished there, so I exported all to .org.

well, it seems the name servers are on siteground, so you’d login there to to modify any DNS records.

Thank you Steve, but they seem to disagree 100%
    This is their latest reply:
The entire account was moved on a new server in order to ensure better hosting environment. Migration was made on 2016-12-17 and notification email was sent instantly, providing you sufficient time to organize the DNS changes.

Domain that was registered with us was automatically pointed, but the main domain which is not registered with our registrar nor transferred over to it could not be pointed, as we do not have any access to check or perform any changes for it. That is why, the notification message included detailed information on the required DNS changes.

At this point, after the response from the company that in who-is database stands as the Registrar of your domain name, the next steps should be to contact the support of WordPress.com and find more information about it. I have searched their documentation and forum threads, but there are no steps on how to perform the changes outside of the account. If the registrar has the information that the domain is handled by WordPress.com it should state that you at some point had an account with them – again something we can not verify. I checked all of your tickets and chats with us so far, and we did not make Website Transfer.

Again, as the domain is not registered with us we are not able to find any additional information or make any changes to it. Thus, see if you can reach the support of WordPress.com and provide them with the statement from Wild West Domains as they are the only ones that can make changes to the domain.

This is not a wordpress.org issue. IF YOU REGISTERED THE DOMAIN VIA WORDPRESS.COM, you need to contact them.

When I look at the WHOIS, I see that the DNS servers are at siteground, so what they serve is managed there.

Were I you, I’d move the whole kit and kaboodle elsewhere. I register my domains and use DNS servers from Google (https://domains.google.com)

@thewinningwish I’ve tagged this for WordPressdotcom Staff assistance. Please see my earlier reply to you here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/my-site-is-down-52?replies=4#post-2825796

@justjennifer, thank you for your replies. Please note that the conversation on .org was prior to.

Furthermore, I cannot access WordPress.com via my writestyles.com email as I cannot receive emails and as I was totally unaware that I had a .com site. I.e. I cannot ask them for a new password, as they mail it to an email which happens to be down. It’s a total mess. Hence, I really thank you for bringing it to .com’s attention. I’m honestly at my wit’s end here. As mentioned above, this has been days now.

  • The issue is that the WordPress.com user account that you are posting from is not the owner of that domain registration upgrade.

Typically this happens because you ended up with a second WordPress.com user account at some point and THAT account is the one that was used to purchase the upgrade. You will need to log into that second account in order to renew the upgrade.

  • To be clear, you would also need to log into that WordPress.com user account to change nameservers for that domain. Nameservers can only be changed by the domain owner.

staff-ozmodiar, thank you for your feedback, as mentioned to @justjennifer, I cannot log in as I had no recollection of having a WordPress.com domain since my site is with WordPress.org, I don’t have a password and cannot obtain a new password as my site is down and thereby so is my mail.
    Thank you for your feedback.

  • I would encourage you to enter any old or rarely used email addresses in the lost password system:

    http://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

  • Unknown's avatar

My email for wordpress.com is (email visible only to moderators and staff). I cannot remember my password. If I ask for a new one, they send it to my email. My email is down because my website is down. So it doesn’t help. I have sent an email to them explaining the situation as well, but as yet… still no reply.

  • That is not the email address for the account that owns the domain registration upgrade, I’m afraid.

Have you tried entering any older or less frequently used emails into the lost password system as I suggested?

  • Unknown's avatar

staff-ozmodiar I must thank you…. I, for some unknown reason, used my very first email address! (probably because this was my very first website)

So as per wordpress.com: Yay, the name servers have been successfully updated!

I would like to thank everybody that assisted me to get this sorted! Thank you so much x
