My site is scrambled on the front end after receiving help from Bluehost
-
Hello, I’m hoping someone can help because I’m now becoming quite desperate to get to the bottom of this issue. I reached out to Bluehost chat support last night for help with what I thought was a tech issue. I was not able to upload images to my media library without receiving an http error. The person on the chat would put me on hold periodically and then come back to ask me to test the action again. Each time I would try and upload a file, but would get the same results. Little by little, more and more images would show up as broken links in my library and now the front end of my site is in complete disarray. The support person never told me what they were actually doing to try and fix the problem, they just ended the chat saying they’d tried everything they could. What was also strange was they said they were seeing things on my dashboard that I was not seeing. Now Bluehost says they are not even able to restore the backup. Up to this point, I’ve been very careful about security and keeping everything up to date. I backup my site every evening. What the heck can I do beside start all over again from scratch??

I’m sorry you are having trouble with your BlueHost site, but we won’t be able to help you here. You’ve posted your question in the technical support forums for sites hosted on WordPressdotcom (the hosted version).
Standalone WP (org) and WordPressdotcom (where we are) are different entities with separate documentation and support forums; more information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
You can find all the support information for sites using the WP (org) software at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page and at https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums, you can register one on that page. Also try searching for similar topics in those forums.
Best wishes for a quick solution.

forgive me, but I’m now even more confused. Bluehost sent me HERE because they said they couldn’t help me. If I have a self-hosted wordpress site, where do I go for support if my hosting service cannot help me?

They sent you to WordPressdotcom? That would be unusual. They probably mentioned WordPress. To learn about the differences, check out the support guide I linked to in my earlier reply.
