My Site Page keeps hanging up on 'Unresonsive script'

    When I go to the My Site Page it keeps hanging up on ‘Unresonsive script’. I have a suspicion it is the ‘latest Post Summary’ as there is just the spinning wheel there.

    Can this be fixed?

    If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
    Try clearing your browser’s cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

    If you are not successful please provide this specific info:
    (a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
    (b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/

    Unfortunately, clearing the cache (and clearing all recent history) did not solve the problem.

    I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 that’s up to date. The hardware is an older Macbook Pro (about 8 years old).

    The browser is 47.0.1, the latest version.

    Javascript is enabled.
    Cookies are enabled.
    Flash is 22.0-1 (according to supportdetails.com)

    Hi @schultetoolco, can you try updating flash? WordPress.com doesn’t use flash, but we have seen a few cases recently where an out of date version is causing an issue.

    If that doesn’t work, will you also confirm whether you see the same thing in another browser?

    Updating flash did not help. The problem does not appear in Internet explorer.

    The dialog box in Firefox says the offending script is:
    Script: https://wordpress.com/calypso/…on.be48ff997934b3e2720b.min.js:17

    Is there any hope this will be fixed? It would be nice to be able to visit the main page without having to switch browsers.

    Do you have any firefox plugins? Would you be able to temporarily disable them?

    Also, to clarify, you’re having trouble with this page, correct?

    Yes, that is the page that causes the problem. And it is the “Latest Post Summary” that it hangs up on. The little wheel just spins in Firefox. In internet explorer there is a little graphic then it shows me some data in the “Latest Post Summary”.

    How is that little graphic displayed? Can there be something wrong there?

    The firefox plugins that are not set to “ask to activate” are:
    * openh264 video codec
    * primetime content decryption
    * shockwave flash
    * widevine content decryption

    I changed them to “never active”. I restarted Firefox. But the page still hung up.

    The other page you sent me to doesn’t hang up.

    I don’t get any other errors or boxes.

    Thanks @schultetoolco, how about any extensions? A plugin displays a specific type of content where an extension can change anything on the way the page displays.

    Also, can you open your error console to see if anything is there? I haven’t been able to duplicate this yet.

    And disabling the extensions did not solve the problem.

    Thanks @schultetoolco. I still haven’t duplicated this here yet, which makes it really tricky to troubleshoot. We’ll keep at it though.

    Sometimes we’ll see this when folks add a realllllly long article, or have 50 sticky posts instead of a few … basically atypical usage that reveals a bug we hadn’t noticed before. Can you think of anything, or maybe let us know what happened right before this issue started for you?

    One thing I can think of is when I was figuring out how to make posts. I added some then deleted some.

    So I’m wondering if some of the deleted blog posts are messing up the database that the “last post summary” is trying to display data for.

    But the fact that internet explorer displays thing fine and firefox hangs up makes me wonder if that makes any sense.

    @schultetoolco they shouldn’t be. I would think if the problem were in the database, I would have the same problem when logged in as you doing the same thing. If it were something where one could run out of ram (as in a post that’s too long, etc), that could vary by computer.

    Have you tried Firefox in Safemode yet?

    This problem happens on both of my blog’s Site Pages, too. Also, all links have stopped working, however opening in a new tab does work.
    I am using Firefox 47.0 with JavaScript and cookies enabled and the only extension I use is AdBlock Plus.

    Issuing the “indexedDB.deleteDatabase(‘calypso’) ” seems to have fixed the problem in Firefox as the page now loads.

    What was deleted with that statement?

    I notice the page loads much slower in Firefox. i.e. it takes about 11-12 seconds to load the page in firefox and it takes 6-7 seconds to load the page in IE. Any idea why? The little graphic doesn’t display in Firefox either if that gives you any clues.
