My site was defaced

  • Unknown's avatar

A guy I thought was a trust-worthy person, just told me he deleted all posts and pages from my site. I NEED HELP, PLEASE!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • That’s very sad and unfortunate! Please take caution in who you grant all the privileges.

To try to recover those posts or pages, there are a few options:

    • Check the trash folder for posts and pages. Are they in the trash? If so, you can easily restore all of them.
    • If they’re permanently deleted (cleared from trash folder too), you can find some or most of the content via Google’s cache feature and manually create new posts/pages after copying the content from cache.

More information on how to try the above options is present here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleted-posts-and-pages/

P.S. I won’t term it as a defacement, which is different and involves gaining illegal access to the server/website and then changing its look.

  • Do note that the trash folder can only hold posts or pages which were deleted in the last 30 days.

They aren’t in the Trash. They are deleted forever. I need help!

  • You will have to use cached pages of your blog through Google.

    1. Open google.com
    2. Paste the link https://luckytroopshq.wordpress.com in the search box
    3. The first result that appears, click the small down arrow in front of the URL, and choose “Cached

It will open your blog, which has posts till June 5 in Google’s cache. Here’s a direct link.

Now you need to copy the content from cache, create a new post or page in your WordPress.com blog and paste the content that you copied from the cached copy.

Repeat the process for individual links of posts or pages.

Some of my posts have disappeared. I found this thread and followed the instructions and found some of them in google ‘cached’ however i think this is a wordpress problem and not a delete problem.

I DID not delete anything and simply went to post as usual on Sunday to find my latest four posts missing. Also, I have noticed that all the more recent media (pictures) etc uploaded for use in my blog are missing too and the home page was amended and some weeks ago and the old format is showing. It’s as if my whole site has reverted back to several weeks ago.

I have completed a restore a couple of times and this doesn’t work. Also my url seems to have changed even though i checked with my hosting (go Daddy) and ensured the correct site is selected as my primary one.

I think the problem is at WordPress’ end can you please look offer some help here?
    Urgently…Please!!

It is 1.45am here and I’m exhausted trying to solve this problem I’ve been at it all day. Off to bed. I hope someone can help
BTW – not having telephone support is pants!

@insightfulangel – Without giving us the URL to your site, we can’t really assist.

If you have hosting on GoDaddy (and not just domain registration) it’s likely that you are talking about a site using the standalone WordPress software. In that case, you should post over at the correct forum https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username there, you’ll need to register one. WP and WPcom are entirely separate. You may also want to check with GoDaddy support directly.

If you are talking about a site hosted by WordPress.com, please give us the URL starting with https:// to make it clickable.

@28luis2 Do you happen to have an export file from before your posts/pages were removed? If so, you’ll be able to import your content back into your site. If not, I recommend looking in the cache as ehtis suggested.

If you believe that someone has unauthorized access to your content you may want to remove that user from your blog. To find out more about how much access each user role has see this support page:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

You may also wish to review our security recommendations here:

@insightfulangel I have confirmed your site is a self-hosted WordPress site using the free and open source WordPress software from WordPress.org. Your site is currently running the Jetpack plugin which gives you access to many of the WordPress.com features however, we have no control over your site. As Jen has pointed out you may want to reach out to the WordPress.org support forums:

@insightfulangel – While we’d love to be able to help you, the WordPress you use is not the same as the WordPress we use here. Answers we give here most likely will not be applicable for you. This will explain a bit more about the differences between WP and WPcomhttps://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Your best bet is to head over and make friends with the Support forum for the standalone WP software and the GoDaddy support folks. Wishing you well.
