My site was very slow and had database errors frequently. Fix?

    Hello,
    My site has been slow forever and has recently started having frequent database errors (connection). My site had 11,000 spam users from back when I used to allow registration (I think). They also had several hundred pending posts that I would periodically delete. I just used the Bulk Delete plugin to delete all 11k spam users. Is this going to fix my issues?

    I am on the Blue Host basic “Plus” plan and get between 6 and 10k visits to my site each day (and growing). Is my hosting plan possibly the root of the problem? Any recommendations on what to upgrade to? I know bluehost has a pro plan, a VPS option, and an “optimized for wordpress option”.

    When I check the error log this is by far the most common error:
    “PHP Warning: mysql_pconnect(): User adwhoisc_jack already has more than ‘max_user_connections’ active connections in /home3/adwhoisc/public_html/wp-content/plugins/proplayer/playlist-controller.php on line 19” I deleted that plugin after seeing that error (not sure if it has popped up since, 4:51 UTC today was the last time it did it)

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
