My ssl certificate and webserver are having issues.
-
My website’s webserver isn’t forcing https and my certificate doesn’t match with my domain. These issues are making it hard to get my my website indexed. I found out because I am on the free plan I can not talk to human support or even have access to fix the problem myself. I am inexperienced and do not know where to go from here. I am hoping for some advice that can help me out.

Hello @chasekc987,
I can imagine how concerning it feels to see those HTTPS and certificate messages. I’d love to take a closer look for you. Could you confirm which domain this is about? Are you referring to your WordPress.com site: eguide101.wordpress.com?
On WordPress.com, all sites automatically include an SSL certificate at no extra cost, and HTTPS is enforced once the certificate is active. You can find more about how this works here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/https-ssl/
If your domain is hosted elsewhere, you may need to adjust the DNS or SSL settings at your hosting provider. Once you share which domain we’re talking about, I’ll guide you through the exact next steps.
Looking forward to your reply!

The website that I’m talking about is eguide101.wordpress.com. my domain is hosted with WordPress and I still receive these messages. Is there an issue on my end?
-
Hi @chasekc987,
Thanks for confirming the site. To clarify, eguide101.wordpress.com isn’t a custom domain but a free site address (a subdomain of WordPress.com).
Since it’s fully hosted here, an SSL certificate is automatically issued, and HTTPS is enforced for all visitors. WordPress.com also sends a Strict-Transport-Security (HSTS) header with every HTTPS response, which ensures your site always loads securely.
I’ve checked your site, and the SSL is active, here’s what I see on my end: https://snipboard.io/RXVZIE.jpg
If you’re still seeing SSL or HTTPS-related messages, could you share the exact error message or a screenshot of what appears on your screen? You can use this guide to take and share one: https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/
This may be a browser-specific issue. Try clearing your browser’s cache or checking your site in a different browser or incognito/private window to see if it displays correctly. You can follow the steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/
Once you share the exact error message, I’ll take another look and guide you further!

I found out about this issue when I tried indexing my website on google console and received an invalid ssl certificate error. I used why no padlock and learned that my domain doesn’t match the one on my certificate and that it isn’t forcing https. I did try to view my website it incognito and it says it is secure and runs well.

Hi @chasekc987,
Thanks for the update! The issue you’re seeing usually happens when “www” is added in front of your WordPress.com address.
For example, if Google or another tool is checking
https://www.eguide101.wordpress.com
instead of
https://eguide101.wordpress.com,
it will report that the SSL certificate doesn’t match — because WordPress.com subdomains don’t use “www”.Your SSL is active and valid. You can confirm by visiting: https://eguide101.wordpress.com
Please also try checking that exact URL on Why No Padlock
— you should see that the certificate matches and HTTPS is active. The message you received from Google is just informational. Please read our topic on the issue: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/ssl-and-security-certificates/?replies=1
Let me know if you have any questions — happy to help further!

Hello sukhenduguria, thank you so much for the response and clarification. I changed the domain “www” and it worked. Why no padlock and Google index now work well for me.
