my theme does not support the 'follow blog' widget – what can i do

I chose a theme that I later learned does not have the ‘follow blog’ widget in its list of widgets. I listened to the wordpress video, but I can’t figure out how to know if a theme has this option or not. how do I ensure a theme has this option before I activate the new theme?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Follow Blog widget should always be available. What site and what theme are you using in this situation?

I was using SuevaFree in wordpress, but I changed to twenty fourteen because they show it on the image, but when I went to ‘add new widget’ it was not there to add. I also went to “appearance’ and did not see it there. thanks for any help you can offer.

The follow blog widget should be in the list of available widgets under Appearance -> Widgets. What site are you having this issue with?

I don’t think I understand your question. MY SITE is courage cocktails, I am using wordpress, and the theme is suevafree. What do you mean when you say : what site are you having the issue with?

I assume the site you are referring to is couragecocktails.wordpress.com.
There is no reason why you would not see the option to add the Follow Blog widget. I have tagged this thread so that it can be addressed by a staff member. Please make sure you are subscribed to this thread so that you know when the staff member responds. You can subscribe by clicking the “Subscribe to Topic” link on the right.

@ariwinokur the user @kayceeodom is talking about a WordPress.ORG site/blog. It’s not necessary the modllok tag.

I have never been to wordpress.org and am not savvy enough to work between the two sites. I pulled it from dot com. seems both must be equally frustrating. I also tried twenty fourteen – pulled from dot com. there is sa button, but it does not seem to link to anything.

my blog is http://www.couragecocktails.com I just changed the theme to WordPress.com’s twenty FOurteen theme, and I think I have the follow blog widget installed, but am not sure if it is working. Thank you so much for your help.

http://couragecocktails.com/ – is a WordPress.ORG install, using the WordPress.ORG software and it is not hosted on WordPress.COM
