My upgrades says I don’t have any upgrades yet, but my domains says I have a primary domain jillgurneydotcom.wordpress.com. So how do I cancel my domain?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
The top level domain here is wordpress.com
All WordPress.COM blogs are on .wordpress.com sub-domains.
This is a free blog being free hosted by WordPress.COM http://jillgurneydotcom.wordpress.com/Are you trying to purchase your own domain?
-
If the answer to my question is yes please read on.
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain URL to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.
If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

No, I’m trying to not purchase my own domain. I got on to wordpress in order to follow someone else’s blog, and was drawn into getting a name – jilldig – so that I could post and possibly have a free blog. But I don’t want more than that. I am worried that jillgurney.com may be something else – like a domain – for which I might be charged. My blog address could be jilldig.wordpress.com, which I would prefer. I do not want a domain at additional cost.
-
Can I be sure that jillgurneydotcom.wordpress.com/ – the address in time thief’s first post above is a free blog and nothing more?

Did you provide financial information or not?
You can’t be charged for anything unless you did that. What do you see here?
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades
https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/What do you see here?
Dashboard > Store > Billing History
https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/If you did purchase an upgrade then you can cancel and get a refund.
WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.
The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours. https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades
Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.
Provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrade, and you are within the allowed time frame for refunds, you can cancel and request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. You can also disable auto-renew there. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

It says on top that I am subscribed to this topic.
I didn’t provide any financial information, so perhaps I am worrying unnecessarily. I’m just surprised at the address jillgurneydotcom, instead of jilldig, which I thought was what I’d subscribed to as a free blog address as well.
Very many thanks for your help, timethief. I’ll look forward to the staff follow-up response.

Yes, with respect, you are. You cannot be charged for anything that you did not provide your financial information for and of that you can be sure.

That is great news, thank you so much, timethief.
So – provided I keep my financial information to myself I can enjoy messing about with my blog/domain etc. -
