My URL in the Address Field can be……. ?

I just saw something while looking at the “Start Your Own Blog” page in WP. It says that I can change the title of my blog at any time. The title of my blog is Pesky Emotional Republican.

However, above it, it has a space for entering my domain, that is to say, the URL of my blog.

Does this mean that all this time I could have had PeskyEmotionalRepublican.wordpress.com in the Address field all this time rather than what is there now (lornakismet.wordpress.com ??????

If I change it now, would it not “disconnect” me from a lot of people. I have an average of 1149 visitors a day, and I would hate to lose them just to make the address more interesting.

This seems like a dilemma to me!

You cannot change the URL of your wordpress.com blog unless or until you purchase a domain.

You can change the Blog title and Taglines at any time and that is done here > Settings > General
make your change(s) and the click “Save Changes”

If you wish and if it’s available you can register a new blog under your preferred URL and then transfer the blog contents into the new blog. Doing this would break all the existing URLs and make it more difficult for your current readers to locate your blog. The existing posts all have “lornakismet” URLs and have been indexed by search spiders do they appear in search results. Therefore I do not advise doing this. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/

Dear TimeThief….. thank you for your bottom line advice. I will take it. I will not change the url. However, if and when I make another blog, will I be free to create my own url, without payint a fee, such as:

    EatGreenVeggiesEveryDay.wordpress.com

    ???

when I make another blog, will I be free to create my own url, without payint a fee, such as: —-

If the any name/url you wish to use is not already in use and has not been previously used and then deleted, as they cannot be reused if they have been deleted, then you can register for another free hosted blog.

However, please think this through very carefully because the best approach is to purchase a domain with the name/URL that you want, and then get a free wordpress.com blog and domain map http://whatever.wordpress.com to your domain. There after you will have to renew both every year ($15)

Notice that the root blog name/URL here at wordpress.com does not even have to relate to the domain name/URL that you buy and pay to renew every year.

Notice also that there are benefits to owning your own domain. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/08/bloggers-get-your-own-domain/

    More advice
Never ever post a domain name you are considering on a forum like this or in your blog. Keep it to yourself. The reason why I advise this is because there are domain squatters and flippers, who send bot armies out to locate domain names being contemplated by others. They purchase those domains and squat on them and attempt to resell them for more than what they paid.

Case in point: As soon as onecoolsite.wordpress.com received a PageRank of 3 the domain names I would have chosen had been purchased.

TimeThief, I am confused. You wrote:

If I make a new blog and choose the URL EatGreenVeggiesEveryDay (a fake idea), won’t it be free? If I can choose whatever domain name I want, why would I have to pay for it?

I do not plan to make a profit from that blog. I just want it to house/hold/contain the pages/posts that I have scattered within my main blog. It would not be a professional type blog.

TimeThief: The example that I wrote (EatGreenVeggiesEveryDay) was a fake name. :-)

Dear TimeThief: You wrote“ Case in point: As soon as onecoolsite.wordpress.com received a PageRank of 3 the domain names I would have chosen had been purchased. ”

I did a search on Page Ranking but found nothing that defined it. What is page ranking?

A quick Google search displayed this search result for page rank http://google.about.com/od/searchengineoptimization/a/pagerankexplain.htm

Whole Google search listing for “What Is PageRank”

Signed Google is your best friend. = )

    @lornakismet

Time Thief Mentioned you can register another blog with the wordpress.com subdomain as long as the name isn’t already taken for free

or you can consider option B: and purchase the domain upgrade for your current blog where you can chose a domain of your choice minus the (.wordpress.com) in the domain URL

No no. When I speak of starting another blog, this means that I will keep my first political blog and have a link that goes from that blog to a new blog. That new blog is what I am asking about now: Can my domain name be:

    EatFreshGreenVeggiesEveryDay.wordpress.com ?????

without me paying extra? It is not a professional or money making blog.

Yes your domain name can be name.wordpress.com as long as the name hasn’t already been taken here is the link to set another free blog. http://en.wordpress.com/signup/

If you don’t want your new blog connected to the same user name and email then you will need to logout first before creating the blog or if you don’t mind the blog being connected to your current user name and email then stay logged in while creating your new blog.
