My Username

  I set up a username on another wordpress blog so I could make a post.

  I now want to start a wordpress blog, but my username is unavailable, even though the blog I posted on has since deleted my post.

  I still have the original email sent to me to set up my username and password on the other WordPress blog, but it doesn’t have a click-link for WordPress. It has a username and password and a link to login to the blog I had posted on, so I can’t use the recover username form.

  Is there anyway to recover my username for the blog I want to start now?

  Hello @tehferins,

  You can add your old username to your current WordPress.com account as a user, and make it as an administrator. I do this on my blog, too.

  You can follow these steps:
  1. Add your old username to your current WordPress.com account as an Administrator.
  2. You will receive an email with the invitation to the email address associated with your old username. Accept the invitation.

  Now, every time you create a new post or page, you will find a dropdown like this at the top to select which user you want to show up.

  staff-imahappyengineer : it says the username doesn’t exist.

  @justjennifer : my username is hexidecimalhack

  @fstat : the username in question is hexidecimalhack and the blog was youthoughtwewouldntnotice.wordpress.com, but it since has its own domain.

  Both the username and the blog address don’t exist (and never existed) on WordPress.com. Also, we don’t (and never did) sent out login passwords via email.
  I think you’re talking about a self-hosted WordPress.org site hosted on another hosting provider.

  I found this website – http://www.youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com/ – and it’s hosted by GoDaddy. Please check and confirm if this is the website you refer to.

  You can login to that website using this link:
  http://www.youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com/wp-admin

  You can use the Lost Your Password link at the bottom if you cannot remember your password.

  Please note that for self-hosted WordPress sites – username is specific to the website. Therefore, having same username for two different WordPress (self-hosted) blogs should be fine.

  I will go back to your original query:

  How did you try to start a WordPress blog? Did you go to WordPress.com and tried to create an account? Or you went to different website to create an account? If you went to a different website other than WordPress.com – what was that website?
