My web page dissapeared

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I paid for a plan last year and haven’t been to view my site. Everything is blank. I can’t even use online support. Is there anyway to restore my site? I need to make some edits to my page and can’t do anything right now.

    Please let me know.

    Brad

    Hi Brad,

I paid for a plan last year

I’ve checked your account and it hasn’t been used to purchase any paid plans — which suggests you have another account.

What is the address of the site you are unable to view? Please do not post any transaction IDs or card details here, a site address is the only information I need for the moment.

Just let me know and we can go from there.

    Hi,

Here’s the site I am referring to:

    http://www.pmppowwow.com

I set up a site from the plan purchased about a year ago, and it looks like everything disappeared. Was hoping there was a way to restore everything.

    Brad

  • Hi Brad,

Your site is not hosted by us (WordPress.com). It is using the open source WordPress.org software and it is hosted by Bluehost. Therefore, you need to contact them regarding your issue.

We’re only able to provide support for WordPress websites that are hosted by us. For help with your site you need to ask over at the WordPress.org forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and the open source WordPress.org software you can read this article:

    Update:

I have been chatting with Bluehost support and unfortunately they can’t go back to see when my site got wiped out. The restoration they tried failed. They actually didn’t have record of the content I had created on pmppowwow.com, only text shown on this site is “Hello world………………….”. I have no idea how this got switched and neither does Bluehost.

So now how do I go back and remove what’s on this site? Basically I’ll be building my site from scratch now.

Also, I need to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.

    Brad

  • Let me clear up the confusion.

WordPress.com and Bluehost are two different hosting providers that use the open source WordPress software to create your site.

This means that you have two accounts. One with Bluehost and one with us (WordPress.com).

With us, the only site you have is pmppowwow.wordpress.com.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

OK. So it looks like I wasn’t adding in the “wordpress” portion in my domain. Now I can see my stats, site pages, etc.

It looks like Bluehost owns my domain as pmppowwow.com, rather than pmppowwow.wordpress.com. Is this for the same account? At least I think so, the reason being I received a message the other day from Bluehost about my domain name expiring on 3/13/19. When going into Purchases in WordPress, I don’t see any past or upcoming charges.

Let me know if I’m confused.

They are two completely different sites at two different places.
https://pmppowwow.wordpress.com/ is hosted by WordPress.com (where you are currently logged in).
http://www.pmppowwow.com is hosted by BlueHost It doesn’t appear to ever have contained any content and the domain expires in 30 days. You need to contact BlueHost not here at WordPress.com if you wish to renew that domain. It won’t be under purchases here at WordPress.com as this is a different company.

So it looks like if I don’t renew my domain on BlueHost, I will loose my domain there but can still operate my Word Press site as normal.

Maybe I didn’t realize what I was doing when purchasing a domain months ago, but not sure why I would purchase a domain on BlueHost when the intent was to create a web page on Word Press only.

  • You’d be welcome to transfer the domain here, if you want to add a plan to pmppowwow.wordpress.com so that it will be pmppowwow.com instead.

    You can do that here:
    https://wordpress.com/plans

Or, you can just stay on a free plan and stick with your .wordpress.com address.
