it is not just me that cant access my website from my PC – my clients have advised me during this afternoon of the problem from their offices so its a general problem
-
Apparently not because I can access the wordpress.COM URL https://jwassocs.wordpress.com which is domain mapped to http://blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk/ instantly from 3 different PCs using 3 different browsers.
-
I have run through your check list and made adjustments – as requested I still get ‘ this page could not be displayed when I enter http://www.whitneyassocs.co.uk or blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk
I had to enable third party cookies other than that all browsers etc were already up to date.
what next ??

Hi, can you check with your current host about http://www.whitneyassocs.co.uk? I can see blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk works here now, but http://www.whitneyassocs.co.uk is not pointed to our servers.
-
Also, thanks for pointing out the trailing email, @timethief. I’ll leave it there for the moment so we can fix the cause. Thanks!
-
I have checked with ‘just the name’ who host the domain whitneyassocs.co.uk and I use their web forwarding service to point to blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk.
please tell me how I can point http://www.whitneyassocs.co.uk to your servers? I assume that I would need to configure the DNS records to point to your servers – can you provide a/cname records for this purpose please .
( I am not techy but have been asked to ask you this !) -
@jwassocs, this article explains how to map a domain:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
You would actually point the domain to our nameservers after mapping it, rather than trying to enter a CNAME. If you had to, you could use A records, but you would have to keep them up to date. Let me know if you need to go that route and I’ll send our current IP addresses. Changing your nameservers is the best way to host the domain here.
ns1.wordpress.com ns2.wordpress.com ns3.wordpress.com -
sorry I am confused as https://jwassocs.wordpress.com is already domain mapped to http://blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk/ , through yourselves.
and then my domain http://www.whitneyassocs.co.uk is currently web forwarded to blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk by just the name.
so surely I don’t need to domain map anything else ?
If I send you a screen print of my dns settings can you confirm which bit I need to change ? -
and then my domain http://www.whitneyassocs.co.uk is currently web forwarded to blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk by just the name.
Right now blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk works but whitneyassocs.co.uk does not.
so surely I don’t need to domain map anything else ?
If your goal is to make whitneyassocs.co.uk work with your WordPress.com site, I’d recommend mapping that and changing the DNS settings for it. You would have to do both, though. (You could map that domain instead of the blog. subdomain if you’d like.)
Please confirm whether that is your intent, and if it is, use both of these steps:
1) Map whitneyassocs.co.uk
2) Change the nameserver settings for whitneyassocs.co.ukIf that is not your intent and if you would like to just forward the domain, please check with the current host for whitneyassocs.co.uk to find out how best to do that there. Please note you’ll want to avoid “masked” redirects. Thanks!
-
but what am I changing the name server destination settings for whitneyassocs.co.uk to ?
is the destination to be jwassocs.wordpress.com or blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk ?
the whole point of the the web forwarding currently in place from http://www.whitneyassocs.co.uk to blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk is so that jwassocs.wordpress.com is invisible in the address bar ( hence the mapping)
-
OK, right now jwassocs.wordpress.com is not visible in the address bar. It goes to blog.whitneyassocs.co.uk . If that’s all you need, you’re all set.
However, I can see that http://www.whitneyassocs.co.uk does not work, nor does whitneyassocs.co.uk, and in previous responses you have asked about making that work. Please let me know whether you still need help with that.
-
you have misunderstood .
you state
1) Map whitneyassocs.co.uk
2) Change the nameserver settings for whitneyassocs.co.ukand I asked
what am I changing the name server destination settings for whitneyassocs.co.uk to ?please reply. thanks
-
Oh, I did indeed misunderstand. You would still want to use these:
ns1.wordpress.com ns2.wordpress.com ns3.wordpress.comOnce that’s done, if you’d like me to change your existing mapping upgrade to work without the “blog” in the address, let me know.
-
sorry do you mean actually type ns1.wordpress.com or do I type my user name jwassocs.wordpress.com?
I only have 2 lines on the dns settings with ip addresses. so am confused
