My website doesn't work when you add www in front of the domain name

  my blog page only appears as http://thebeautycloud.co.uk there is no www. in front. When you type http://www.thebeautycloud.co.uk it doesn’t work. I know this has something to do with the DNS records but im not sure what exactly.

  Can someone help?

  Hi there,

  Please note that WordPress.com automatically removes the “www” from all URLs. Any traffic to http://www.thebeautycloud.co.uk will be redirected to http://thebeautycloud.co.uk.

  Redirecting the first version of your URL to the second version helps to ensure that search engines index your site properly.

  Thanks. But the issue is that traffic to http://www.thebeautycloud.co.uk isnt being redirected to thebeautycloud.co.uk

  Instead you are told that the website doesnt exist.

  Hi there,

  Ah I see your issue. I’m wondering – did you create the subdomain: http://www.thebeautycloud.co.uk and try to point that somewhere? Please check with your registrar to make sure this is not the case.

  It looks like http://www.thebeautycloud.co.uk is just hanging there.

  I have contacted my registrar and this is their reply:

  Please note that current the nameservers for your thebeautycloud.co.uk domain are pointing to another hosting provider(WordPress).
  Therefore, you will need to contact them and ask them to add a “www” “A” record in your domains DNS records.

  I don’t know how to do that :-(

  Hi there,

  I looked at your DNS records, and it looks like you set up your A records to point to:

  109.75.161.213

  Is there a particular reason for this?

  I just did that after replying the last time to see if it would work. It was the only IP address listed on my DNS records so thought id try that. Do you know where it should be pointing to?

  We don’t have a single IP address for your site since we have your site on a number of geographically-diverse servers to improve speed and uptime.

  Since we change out the IPs we use based on when different datacenters/server go online, we don’t suggest using IP addresses.

  Our suggested route is to map your domain (by adding it via the Store > My Domains page on your site’s dashboard), add the MX records currently on your site to our Store > My Domains > Edit DNS, then changing your nameservers to WordPress.com, which you did.

  However, it looks like you need to add an A-record. Here are our IP addresses:

  • 192.0.81.250
  • 66.155.11.238
  • 76.74.254.123
  • 192.0.80.250
  • 76.74.254.120
  • 66.155.9.238

  I have added them for you. Please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below:
