My website expired

hi my website expired which is called poetryislifesite.com and I’m trying to purchase the same site again. I wanted to know am I able to do that and also still have all of my posts still on the site?

  • Hi there, it looks like that domain and hosting was purchased through a different provider. Can you reach out to them directly to see what it would take to get the domain and hosting back?

Going forward, for help with thee free WordPress software itself, you’ll also want to use the correct forums for self-managed installations, at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Or, you’d be welcome to migrate your site to our services so we can take care of hosting and WordPress support for you. You can find our pricing here:
    https://wordpress.com/pricing

    Cheers!

Hi, not sure if I remember what provider it was I just remember it being on WordPress at first then I purchased a name without wordpress name in it but it was all through wordpress I believe. If I don’t remember the provider I purchased it from am I able to still move my old site to your services?

  • Hi there,

I used https://completedns.com/dns-history/ and found out that your host was most likely iPage. So you need to contact them and ask for a backup of your site. That is of course if they have kept a backup as many hosting providers are not required to do so.

Alternatively, you can check the Internet Archive site and see if there’s a cached version of your site there.

I contacted them but they said that I wasn’t able to restore my post there but name could still be used. How do I create my website with you guys with the same website name?

  • Hi @velmasharie, I’d recommend starting here:
    https://wordpress.com/start/

When it asks, put in the name you want to use, and specify that you already own it. Then, buy the plan of your choice. When you’re done with that, check in with iPage about how best to point the domain here, or you can even transfer it to our services. Personally I recommend pointing then transferring! We can help with that more when you’re at that step.

Rebuilding a site without a backup can be a bit tricky, but you can use the internet archives my colleague mentioned. Go to https://archive.org/web/ and paste your site address there. With any luck, they’ll have kept copies of some of your posts and pages, and you can copy and paste info from it into a new site here.

You can make each page here:
    https://wordpress.com/page

    And each post here:
    https://wordpress.com/post

Then, tie them all together with menus and categories as you see fit.

It’s giving me a error when I try to sign up through the link. I can do a completely new website where do I start with doing that? I’m completely lost.

  • Hi there,

Hmm that sounds odd. What is the error message you are getting? That is happening when you try to go to https://wordpress.com/start/ yes?

    Thanks for the additional info!

Yes, It says sorry there was a problem processing your request. Please try again in a few minutes.

    Thanks for that information.

I’m going to reach out to our development team to see what might be the issue here. Since it is the weekend, we may not hear back from them until Monday.

We’ll be back in touch once we hear back! Thanks!

@velmasharie – I had WordPress.com support reach out to you directly via email (sent to the email address on file for your account) and they will work with you to get things sorted to get that new site set up.

Please keep your correspondence and any further questions to that email.

We’ll mark this thread closed as we’re helping you via email now.
