My website has vanished after I corrected the spelling of a word in the navigation tag in Menu 1. Please help. Thanks.

    Hi,

Are you referring to the site https://gippc.wordpress.com/? If so, then it is publicly visible. Have you resolved the issue?

Hi, thanks for looking into the matter. Yes, it’s publicly visible only if I type the entire address (gippc.wordpress.com). It was very different before (since the launch on 7 April and till yesterday)…I used to have it appear within the top five search results on the first page of google search. I just needed to key in “gippc”. It was even better with “gippc wordpress”. But now, when I key in “gippc” or “gippc wordpress”, it doesn’t appear in the search results at all, apart from my public post asking for help, saying that my website has vanished. Could it have anything to do with me playing around with the navigation label under one of my menus? I noticed things changed when I corrected a spelling error. Thanks for your help.

    You’re welcome.

when I key in “gippc” or “gippc wordpress”, it doesn’t appear in the search results at all

The acronym “gippc” is used by others. Nevertheless, on the latest Firefox browser, I find a link to your site as the sixth Google search result on that keyword. On the combination “gippc wordpress,” a link to your site appears as the third Google search result, the first two being links to your WordPress.com forum profile, and this forum topic, respectively. You may obtain different results depending upon which browser you are using, browser settings, etc.

Could it have anything to do with me playing around with the navigation label under one of my menus?

Almost certainly not. Menu items are just links to existing content, internal or external. They have no effect upon that content.

I noticed things changed when I corrected a spelling error.

    Coincidence, most likely.

Oh, you’re right. I’m assuming you’re using Firefox on a Mac. So I managed to try Bing and it’s not too bad either. I was just baffled this morning when I discovered no search results at all (stark contrast from the days before) as I google searched on my iphone and IBM-compatible laptop. Interestingly, it’s now back up on my iphone/mobile search but there’s still nothing on my laptop’s Chrome search – apart from the WordPress Forums post about GIPPC gone missing. So I suppose I should just let the matter rest. BTW, is there a way to delete the Forums post? Or will it be there for eternity?? Thanks so much for all your help.

And BTW, I had very good traffic yesterday and today, it’s rather pathetic. So I think the search results had a massive impact. Thanks.

I’m assuming you’re using Firefox on a Mac.

    PC, not a Mac.
Staff might be better able to provide possible reasons for variation of results with different browsers. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic if you’d like to run that by WordPress.com staff. The tag calls for staff attention.

BTW, is there a way to delete the Forums post? Or will it be there for eternity??

Eternity, or until WP.com policy changes. They don’t delete topics or posts, unless there is something published that may be a security threat, or for legal reasons.

So I think the search results had a massive impact.

In my experience, Google search results seldom respond either rapidly or dramatically to a single day’s traffic. But things change, and perhaps you’re right in this case.
