My website is no more on Google… due to AMP

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello !
Last week, my website was on the first page on Google.
But then, I receive an email from the Google Search Console that say “Warning AMP: image size too small”. I don’t know what is an AMP and what I should do. I thought it’s because the picture from my home page is too small but to me it’s sufficiently big…
Also, I should precise that I’ve done the referencement of my website manually because Google don’t want to show my home page but the “contact page” or other stuffs… So, I think the problem is on my home page… What size of picture do you recommend me ?

    Thank you.

  • You can find your theme’s recommended image sizes under “Quick Specs” at https://wordpress.com/theme/button-2

Please keep in mind though these site checkers are not really aware of context. An image can _always_ be made smaller, but at what cost?

As for improving your search placement, we have a few recommendations at https://wordpress.com/support/seo/

  • Hi, here’s what AMP is:

Could you send the exact link your Google notification mentions? And if it specifies an image, let us know what that is too.

I went to the google search website (sorry but on the wordpress support, there is no mention of this issue and i’m only able to change the colors for the AMP side…).

So ! It appears that Google recommend a size of 1200 pixel of width (for 16:9 ratio) so I made a new image with those dimension: 1200 x 675 pixel.

But ! I still can’t visit the page with the new image with the AMP tool…

Please, do someone know a thing about this AMP stuff, I believe that I’m not the only one with this issue…

    Thank you.

  • Could you share the exact link your Google notification mentions? Does it contain the link to a particular image?

There is no way for me to post images here…

So, the page ONLY say “warning Image size smaller than recommended size” and said that it affect one page but does not precise which page. It only provides example of “good page” which is the page “additions” where there is nothing, no images at all…

  • It should be saying that about a particular link, so if you can send that it would be greatly helpful.

There is no way for me to post images here…

You can upload them to your media library, then update us here so we can check to see what you’ve added. Or, you can use snipboard.io or a similar service, and paste the link.

  • The post link appears there at the bottom of that screen shot: https://chemattraction.wordpress.com/2020/06/06/example-post-3/

The only image on that page is the chemical formula at the top.

But as staff-blorbo said above, these checks are not context-aware – they just check your site content against an arbitrary list of “requirement” without any understanding of how you’re actually using the content, and this error isn’t anything to be concerned about. I get notices like this about my site all the time, and I just ignore them all and have never noticed any negative effects from doing that.
