My website on wordpress.com won’t let me update or publish my pages

  Hi, I’ve a free website on wordpress.com that’s been inactive for several months. When I tried to resume activity, I find that I’m unable to update an old page or publish a new page though I’m the administrator of the site. It lets me create a page, though, but when I try to save the draft it says ‘Sorry, publishing failed! You are not allowed to edit this post’. I don’t know if this has anything to do with the recent WordPress upgrade to a new editor. I understand WordPress has upgraded its editing software to Gutenberg, I don’t know if that automatically applies to the WordPress.com site where it is, after all, based on WordPress. In any case, I see no reference to Gutenberg anywhere on my dashboard, though I do see ‘Classic Editor’ next to Edit under each of my pages on wp-admin. Any help in resolving this issue would be gratefully received. Please know that I’m not very tech-savvy about website admin jargon, so please address a relative novice on the matter.

  Please log out, delete all WordPress.com cookies in your browser and also clear the browser cache, then log back in.

  Solve Common Browser Issues

  Do you still see that error when you try to publish or update a post? If so, please check if it helps to use a different browser, and let us know the results.

  Thanks much, it worked this time! I did try clearing the cache before I posted to this forum, but I think I may not have logged out before clearing the cache.

  That worked, thanks! I’d tried clearing the cache even before posting on the forum, but I think I may have not logged out before clearing the cache. Incidentally, this was on Google Chrome, on a Macbook Pro.
