My website was deleted – can I retrieve content?
-
Hi! I’ve been using a wordpress.com site since 2018 – loved it – but the OneTone theme was hacked twice so I had to change themes and also decided to change hosting and domain name providers (I was with Network Solutions for this but using a WP.com theme and switched to BlueHost this week). I’d started transferring my old content (hundreds of images saved in photo uploads) to a new theme but after the transfer to BlueHost went through my entire WP site disappeared – at first my credentials weren’t even recognised by WP login but now I managed to login and see weirdly only my avatar and username is saved. There is no reason. Please can you help me regain access to the old account data as it will be extremely laborious to have to upload gazillions of images all over again (this is for my work portfolio). THANK YOU!!

It was all stored at Network Solutions, can you get a backup from them to bring to your new hosting company? Once you have it, see this on how to move: https://wordpress.org/support/article/moving-wordpress/
WordPress.com. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are a little separate, and that can be confusing.

Thanks so much for the reply! I will check out those links and hopefully will help solve the problem! I was definitely using themes from WP.com not WP.org and using this account username that I’m using right now. However I didn’t know I needed to back up all my WP data. As it stands I only have a backup of my old OneTone theme but was expecting all the backend stuff like file uploads and plugins to still remain there. Fingers crossed I can work this out tomorrow. Thank you again!! :)

Having the site connected to WordPress.com using Jetpack can make things confusing, but the site is still just stored at your host. So yes they are still on the server that they were installed to, but the domain is pointing elsewhere. Hopefully that makes sense. Good luck with getting that all moved over!
