My website was shut down. The hosting provider shut it down due to non-payment. I did hosting thru the man that set up my website. He has either passed away or gone out of business. No answers to call texts or emails. I have reached out to hosting provider and told him my story. He says someone else said same thing about the man who designed my website (the website being shut down) Please help me.

We can’t help you as your wasn’t running on the wordpress.com platform. If you nor your hosting made a proper backup, there is nothing much we can do.

  • Hi there,

Was you backup created via a plugin or was it a direct download of the site’s files?

If it was created with a plugin, you’ll need to get a new hosting plan, install the WordPress software to create a new site, and install the same backup plugin. Then use that plugin to restore the backup you have. You’ll need to contact support for that plugin directly for help with that process.

If you want to move your hosting to us, you’ll be able to do this on our Business Plan:

    https://wordpress.com/support/business-plan/

If the backup is simply a full-site download directly from the old host’s server, you’ll also need to get a new hosting plan. Then you’ll need to upload the files you have directly to the server via FTP/SFTP. You’ll need to contact support at you hosting provider for help with that process.

While we do offer SFTP access on our Business Plan, it’s not possible to upload a full-site backup via SFTP on WordPress.com, so in that case our hosting won’t be the best option for you.
