My weekly photo challenge posts are not uploading to Topics.

Posts not uploading up to Topics – In recent months many of my weekly weekly photo challenge posts are not uploading to Topics. Maybe my other posts also. Eg this weekend’s ‘Eerie’ – http://michealdebarra.com/2013/11/01/weekly-photo-challenge-eerie/
Help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
There are a number of reasons why blog posts might not show up in the Reader’s tag (topic) pages, listed here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts
I took a look at the blog post you linked to, and I noticed that it has more than 15 categories/tags on it. If you use more than 15 tags and categories (total), your posts will not appear on tag pages in the Reader. I’d recommend reducing the number of tags you use. Let me know if you have any questions about that!
-
I reduced the number of tags considerably and updated. But still not appearing in topics. Maybe will only do so with a new post?
But from memory I have had this problem for last 2 months approx, and nothing is uploading, regardless of number of tags.
I also queried recently why my photos are appearing in tiny postage stamp size when I make a post in certain way & not in other ways. So appreciate if you can throw any light on either matter.Very frustrating in recent months when my site suddenly would not work as previously. First all the white text turned black, so it was very difficult to read my script against the black background I had at that time. And since then I have hd issues with uploading, and photo size as mentioned.
All these bugs very frustrating.
Awaiting your response

Hi there,
It can take a little time for a recently updated post to start appearing in the Reader topics/tags. However, I see your latest post showing up now, for example here: http://en.wordpress.com/tag/irish-man-in-the-middle-east/
I also queried recently why my photos are appearing in tiny postage stamp size when I make a post in certain way & not in other ways.
Can you give me a link to a post where that’s happened? I’d be happy to take a look for you.
If you’re also having trouble uploading images, please let me know exactly what kinds of problems or error you’re having and I’d be happy to help troubleshoot that, as well.

Hi Rachel. Still having trouble with my posts not uploading. This week I posted 2 different posts under the weekly photo challenge called Layers, but neither was visible when I checked all the other ‘Layers’ posts.
Help! -

Hi there,
I saw your posts on the Layers tag page in the reader here: http://en.wordpress.com/tag/layers/
I took a screenshot of the latest one so you can see what I mean: https://cloudup.com/cjGy7JjhxHH
If you scroll down past the more recent “Layers” posts, do you see it there?

Ok Rachel – your next challenge! So far your solutions & answers are excellent. Now for a more difficult question I think.
When I make a new post I must avoid using the more photo friendly way of making a new post, or I end up with tiny postage stamp size photos (using screen shot C & D method attached).
Whereas if I use the more basic way of making a post (using screen shot A & B attached) I can edit the pics no problem and I end up with correctly sized pics.
To show you an example of what I mean. take a look at yesterdays post called Not An Alien http://michealdebarra.com/2013/11/22/not-an-alien/
You will notice that the 2nd last pic is very small size – even though when you go into ‘edit’ it appears as a large size pic same as all the rest. I actually included this pic as a bit of an after-though just before I published the post, but inadvertently added the photo using screen shot D method.
So Miss Rachel! Why is A&B working correctly for me with the photos, but C&D is not? Incidentally, I had the same problem for last few months with different Themes that I tried out, in attempt to find an easy solution – but to no avail.
Over to you R!

Hi there,
Ok, I’m up for the challenge! :) I’m missing the screenshots (A, B, C, & D) that you mentioned, but I’ll do my best without them. Feel free to upload those screenshots to your media library (Media > Add New) and I can look at them there, if you’d like.
When you added that second-to-last picture, it was added as a medium-sized image. The image size is one of the options under “Attachment Display Settings” when you add an image to your posts.
Currently, medium-sized images will be a maximum of 300 pixels wide and 300 pixels tall when you view the image on your blog. (That second-to-last image is 300 pixels wide.) You can see and change your image sizes under Settings > Media in your dashboard.
You can change the image settings after it’s added to your post, to pick a different size. To do that, click on an image in the post editor and select the configure button in the upper left corner of the image. In the window that appears, click the “Advanced Settings” tab. You can click the “Original Size” button there to set the original dimensions for the image, and delete the “size-medium” class underneath that so it isn’t restricted to the medium size on your blog.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
Also, if you have any other questions about your blog, can you please use the contact form to start a new thread about it? That helps us keep track of your separate questions and helps when others are searching for answers to similar questions in the future. Thanks!

Thanks for the great help Rachel. You are indeed a WordPress legend and have proved yourself worthy of the challenge!
If you ever fancy coming to the Middle East I might even consider taking you as a second wife, as the local Muslim men sometimes do (to max number of 4). Even thought I am Irish Catholic and the rules normally forbid, I would make exception in your case. But I promise that I would not later take a Nr 3 or 4 – out of respect for your ‘legend’ status. Cross my heart!
One final question – for future use – When I go into settings/media on the dashboard there is no option offered to change the pic sized – just an indication of the 3 sizes of thumbnail, medium & large under the heading ‘Image Sizes’. I can not see any option here to actually set my image sizes to a default setting (presumably ‘large’ is what I require). But you say in your above advice that this is possible. Confused!
Ok, adios for the moment Miss R.
Thanks again.
Mike

Under Settings > Media you can change the default sizes for thumbnail, medium, and large images on your blog. So if you have a medium-sized image on your blog, the settings on this page will determine how large that medium image can be.
To change the size of a specific image (for example, to make it a large or full-sized image instead of a medium image), you will need to edit that image’s settings, instead. You can do that by editing the post where you inserted the image. We have more information about how to edit the image settings here: Image Settings

Gotcha!
Thanks for all your help Rachel. Really appreciated. Has been a frustrating few months but now problem solved. Easy when you know how I guess. But like many I guess, I just stumble through it from post to post and learn by mistakes, and taking advice from you guys when necessary. Never really have the time to sit down and learn all the tricks. Thanks again. You’re a star! -
Hi again Rachel. Entered the weekly photo challenge last night (Let there be light) but the pic has not uploaded as of this morning when I searched all the entries. Any thoughts? A regular problem for last few weeks. Might try to reduce the 9 tags down to 2, and see if that will help.
-
Hi Mike, can you let me know exactly where you’re searching for your post? I checked and it’s showing up for me in the Reader, but it would help to know where you looked and couldn’t find it. I can follow up there to see what’s going on.

Hi Rachel
When I click on ‘Tags’ (Weekly Photo Challenge – WPC) to look at all the other posts I do not see mine. Last time I asked you this question you found it already uploaded! Hopefully you do not find it this time to prove my point! In the past i got many new followers through the WPC. But in recent months nobody as the photos are generally not uploading (I think!).
Thanks.

Hi Mike,
It sounds like you’re looking at this page in the Reader:
http://en.wordpress.com/tag/weekly-photo-challenge/
Here’s what’s happening, and why your latest post didn’t show up on that page:
You have a category on your blog called “Weekly photo challenge.” When you use that category, your posts will show up on the page I linked to above.
You also have a tag on your blog called “Weekly Photo Challenge.” When you use that tag, your posts will show up on this page in the Reader: http://en.wordpress.com/tag/weekly-photo-challenge-2/
When you have a category and a tag that both have the same name like that, one of them will get the number 2 added to the end of the link. To make sure your posts show up under weekly-photo-challenge in the Reader, be sure to add the category “Weekly photo challenge” to those posts.
I went ahead and switched all of your posts to that category, instead of the tag, to make sure they show up on the right page in the Reader. Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

What a woman, what a woman, what a woman! If you were living in Saudi Arabia the locals would be queuing up to marry you, offering you gold and houses and camels. I would have absolutely no chance!!
Ok Rachel. Thanks again for the education and guidance. You are a star.
